This is the beginners mechanical keyboard.

If you can cope with the dated look and flimsy construction, the Cherry G80-3000 is the only other contender at this point imo.

no, you are wrong shirty i'm afraid. The XT is a superior typing experience to a g80, it's plate mounted, and it's built like a tank. If I like full size boards, I wouldn't put mine down!

hehe, I just kidding, The G80's are sweet. Though the XT is, you are right THE entry level board.

Not wrong per se, it's just an opinion. I just love creaky old Cherries. But I won't deny the construction is worlds apart :D

I realised my words were too strong which is why I put the just kidding edit in :D

Want to know a fun fact? I've never seen in the flesh a G80-3000, all the G80's I've got or had aren't 3000's. So I can't really have any opinion. My G80 is built like a tank with a big bit of steel in the bottom.

My only complaint for the XT, is the full size usb port on it, for me to utilise all the usb to usb cables I have around the house...

I can't believe it - I feel like I'm going to have to buy one (with blues, naturally) and send it to you for review at once!

I still like you even though you said I was wrong :)

Yep, the G80-3000 is very lightweight in comparison to my plate mounted boards, but it's lovely to type on.

I do like the Quickfire XT though - it looks like excellent value.

Looks like a nice board. Of all the mechs I've tried I still haven't found a better typing experience than the G80-3000, and that includes classics like buckling spring and Alps.

Need to edit the article though - towards the end, the board is referred to as "Quickfire TK" a few times which might confuse readers. :)

I'm seriously considering one for myself... anyone fancy a one of a kind G80-8937LSGDB with PBT caps and MX blacks for 50 notes?

    Thats a good trick :)

I wish that board didn't have blacks on it. And I just remembered I haven't posted your browns - I will sort that!

    Amazing.

In other news, I have a G80-3494 which I removed the reds from and replaced with clears, and a nice Hyperfuse keyset. I use it every day, and it's a joy to type on!

I could put reds on it...

No rush on the browns my good man - but it will be nice to finally get this cougar finished and move on to the next project!

how many do you actually want? is it 15?

do you know how many reds and blacks I have that I will probably never use? I even found a bag of 30 reds the other day, that I have NO IDEA where they came from. I dislike them both perfusely, which is why I guess I am amounting them, as I just take them off anything that comes with them on :D

It's 16 I think - thye whole numpad except the numlock key.

I've lost my love for linears a bit, but it always comes back when I play a game. Gaming on greens is hardcore!

    EDIT: yeah it's 16 I need...

Give you lot a place to mention keyboards and it turns into a new mechanical keyboards thread within 15 posts... :p

Very happy with CM for making this board the way they have, they've hit the nail firmly on the head here, I'm struggling to think of a feature I would miss if I bought this... except that I don't have caps for a full size board. TKL please! I suppose being really critical it would be nice if the USB cable was micro, so I can use the lovely Pexon ones I have :p
