I had the TTS in for some work the other week. Fitted a Milltek turbo back exhaust (100-cell cat), Pipercross Panel Filter, GFB DV+ and had it remapped by AMD Tuning. It's now running 340bhp/379lbft, up from 271bhp/259lbft on the RR before any work was done.

The way it gains speed now is quite remarkable. Many grins.

Next plans are an uprated clutch, a few suspension tweaks (performance and ride-related, not just lowering for the sake of lowering) and a High Pressure Fuel Pump to eke out a bit more power. It'll be up close to 380bhp/400lbft by the time I'm done with those bits.

 

What's the situation with insurance on that, Tim?

I forgot to mention that I've also upgraded the brake pads - now running EBC Redstuff. The shims are crap and I've had to refit them with superglue after they came loose in 400 miles (causing a rotating squeak from the rear passenger side wheel after being driven hard). Since refitting the shims on both rear corners, they haven't worked themselves loose again and the squeals/squeaks have gone.

Braking from speed is a lot more composed with the new pads, but I still have the lines and discs to do at some point - discs will be done at the next pad change as that was the recommendation on my last service. The stability under braking is one of the reasons why I want to play with the suspension a bit... there's the occasional wiggle with ESP off (default for hooning/track) when braking hard, so I want to try to correct that if I can with a few suspension changes. I'm saving up a bit and then I'll head down to see a geo specialist to get their thoughts on what needs doing to get the handling totally sorted without having to resort to coilovers - I don't want the compromises that come with coilovers as I'm not regularly tracking the car so don't need the adjustability.

Finally got my car back from being repaired and I'm far from impressed with the quality of work, especially the attention to detail (or lack of...).

Seems like they caused more scratches and imperfections on the car than the accident!

In short, there are various scratches and gouges in places that were fine before the accident, and on a few panels that are rather odd such as the small metal part of the roof, and the rear spoiler part of the window.

On top of that, the quality of their paint repair is shocking - there are numerous "bobbles" in the paint. In other places such as the alloys, they have refurbished them on the side of the accident, but one has a gouge under the paint and it isn't a kerb mark either, so that hasn't been repaired properly.

It may actually be dirtier now than before the accident, a very poor attempt at cleaning has been made, including fresh scratches from a dirty cloth all over the speedo and clock, as well as stains from polish on almost every plastic/rubber part outside, and some inside the car.

Plus, all four of my nice alloy dust caps are now "missing", not even replaced with standard black plastic ones!

And this supposedly took a month to do???

Needless to say we have already informed the insurance company and they are sending out an independent engineer to take a look at the issues. I can see this being quite a battle though, as it isn't as simple as a poor quality job, they have physically damaged panels that had nothing to do with the accident, and I don't know how this can be proven. My car was not in 100% perfect condition before the accident, but given the amount of time I spent working on the car and cleaning it, I knew every minor imperfection on there, hence why it has been so easy to notice all the extra ones that have appeared!

 

Unbelievable! Good luck with it. I always get the feeling that the garages that deal with insurance jobs are generally awful - they'll charge over the top and probably do a terrible job. I'm sorry to see this seems to be the case here!

 

30 entrants for our race series this weekend.

Qualifying: 18th with a 1:29.8, The lap was 2 seconds faster than the one I did on Wednesday on a trackday.

Race 1: Dry and sunny. Over-drove the car (worked it too hard, broke to late, etc) and finished 17th.

Race 2: Wet and greasy. Kept it on the black stuff, lots of fun slides and overtakes, finished 12th.

Picked up this morning for the wife, it's technically her car although it'll be me that drives it if we go anywhere together.

 

Round 2 - Rockingham (ISSC) - is over, 11th place in race 1, 12th in race 2. Missed out on a top ten by one stupid mistake at the end of race 2. :/

I've got a list of things to fix on the car and I've run out of cash, so it looks like I won't be back out on track until August at Brands Hatch.











This really is the best hobby in the world!

 

Couple of months in and I can't yet find much of a fault with it. Superb so far.

Tar off the M6 is a bit of a pain though.

I had something similar to this, but even weirder. Someone clipped the rear bumper, went in for repair, that was all good, car came back with what must be around 250 tiny chips all over the windscreen. Insane. Such a ridiculous thing to prove or even conceive how it happened, that I didn't even bother following it up. I don't know what the MoT is going to be like later this month.

Going to a 16v Ryan?

 

Thanks guys, going for a 2.0 16v ABF from a Leon Cupra/mk3 Golf GTI. Very similar to the 1.8 16v from a mk2 so should be well suited. 1.8t conversions are done to death (and sound dull) plus I dont fancy the extra 50kg-ish hanging over the front wheels from a VR6 (even though they sound awesome).

With a decat and the 2.5" 2 box system I already have, I should see around 160bhp out of the ABF. Not monsterous power but should be fun once its fully poly bushed, big brakes and decent coilovers fitted.
