All control methods are supported. In the released videos, the devs have used m/k, xbox pad & HOTAS.
(Haven't seen anyone trying a Leap Motion yet. Hmmm....)

Well, control systems will be something we find out about next week ;)

Some of us have gone all out (or in fact, totally over the top) - me being one of them. However, these are the options we know of...

    1) Keyboard & Mouse
Probably the most basic, but also the least immersive option. We honestly don't know how well this is going to work - the mouse is going to be very precise for aiming, but I can imagine flight controls are going to be a lot harder.

    2) Controller
CIG have been seen using Xbox controllers on a fair few videos, but they've also highlighted some problems. The controller looks much nicer for flying, but not that good for aiming as it is imprecise and prone to overcorrection due to the small analogue sticks.

    3) Keyboard + Joystick
So this is probably a reasonable and cheap route in. The joystick gives you better immersion and control, including higher accuracy aiming. You're still having to jump to the keyboard for things like thrust etc, but I reckon this might be a decent option. Good joysticks?
    - Thrustmaster Warthog - yes, the stick is now available separately!
    - CH Flightstick
    - Thrustmaster T.1600M
    - Logitech Extreme 3D Pro
    - Saitek FLY5 (Cheap stick, but does the job)

    4) HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick)
So this is the most like a real ship, with a joystick and separate throttle mount (and maybe pedals!). You'll have so many buttons under your hands you don't need a keyboard, but it's also the most expensive for a decent quality setup. CIG have been seen in some videos using HOTAS setups of various kinds.

    Good quality HOTAS' include:
    - Thrustmaster Warthog
    - Saitek X-55
    - Saitek X-52/X-52 Pro
    - CH HOTAS
    - Thrustmaster T-Flight (not sure how good it is)

So, I went for option 4 with the following
    - Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS (+ 7.5cm extension)
    - Saitek Pro Flight Combat pedals
    - Razer Orbweaver gamepad for FPS module

I then got ridiculous and added
    - TrackIR 5
    - Obutto R3volution cockpit

    Very helpful thanks Cei

I think the Thrustmaster T flight will be my aim, and a bigger monitor of course

I'll be interested in your experience with the T-Flight. I'm intending to write a guide to control schemes once we get our private BitSec forum on the RSI website, and as much feedback from pilots on all the different setups is going to be invaluable.

The best thing to do is to buy smart, and get things that can be added to rather than outright replaced. CH products are good for this - you can buy a Flightstick to start, and then add a throttle at a later date...then pedals. HOTAS' are a big investment, but I find them worth it.

You absolute diamond! Been trying to google a WASD peripheral keyboard easy on the hand and drew a blank!

The Razer Orbweaver looks like it fits the bill perfectly! :thumb:

There's a cheaper version using membrane keys (and one less row of keys, so a bit more compact) as well, the Tartarus. I'm already using the Orbweaver for FPS games and it's awesome.

I'll have a little research on both versions. Hand is really suffering using a regular keyboard layout with FPS games so these Razer alternatives should help a great deal.

I had a t-flight, or whatever the old version was called, years ago and it was quite good, not amazing but not bad.

Yup. By the sounds of the very long prose, I think they want Bit-Sec to join up with them for some cooperation.

Yes, I got one as well. They seem to be very aggressively trying to expand their userbase, and when I checked were over 2600 members...

As an org of 61 people, I'm not really sure we'll get anything out of the deal. Individually, possibly, as it allows those who are XPLOR members to use their facilities and docking privledges etc.

tl;dr Current stance is that BitSec will not be engaging in an official alliance. If you wish to join XPLOR as an individual for the benefits that brings, feel free to do so.
