    Yup, I hope there's enough airflow :p.
You are too kind, thank you.

I has hoping for a major update today but I'm still waiting on some materials. I can give you this though...

I'm still tweaking the geometry and waiting on my 3/4" alu rod to make a fake shock absorber for the coil-over. But I can adjust the spring tension though to change the ride height, I'm kinda proud of that :D.

Hopefully I'll be able to do a complete write up soon.

    Pretty kick-butt return, there.:D
If you have any airflow issues, you could make a gasket around the fan and inside wall of the hub.
    -Wait... Pico power supply?

    Thanks!
Yeah that's plan B. I'll partition it off so the cpu fan sucks in air through one side and exhaust out the other.

And yeah, definitely reusing a picoPSU from a previous build.

    Update!

Attached my neodymium magnets and mounted the mobo tray.

Some materials showed up, time for some lathe work.

    And the coil-over is done.

I'm still not sure what the feet will end up looking like, but they definitely need some more work.

It's getting there :D. Thanks for reading.

May I say that the feet are just screaming for some curves, in keeping with your overall aesthetic? Perhaps the same 'fillet' as in your mobo tray, on top or the outer side of the feet ends? Near the coil, the top could be curved to follow the shape of the bolt.

That fake coil is just awesome!

Is it wrong that I'm getting all tingly with excitement looking at that?... :worried:

    :D

I am surprisingly pleased with how the linkage/suspension came together. It wasn't in the original design but it really compliments the gear/sprocket-like body. I'm really excited about this one. Now if I can just get the base right...

What about incorporating some imitation knurling? Either crosshatched or straight like this?

    Let's try it...

    Hm....

I might have to use a checkering file since I'd like to have some curves to the feet.

edit* I just realized my phone takes better pictures than my old digital camera I've been using...

    Love the feet.:D
    -The checkering looks like torture.

    Notches to simulate airframe lightening?

You're in my head. I've settled on hollowing them out with some trussing but I'm not sure the feet at they are will fit with that. I have some other material I can use if necessary. I've been scouring google image for an hour now for some inspiration :p.

    Update!

I think I finally have the feet sorted!

Here's a piece where I experimented with all sorts of designs and embellishments.

This was a design I had dismissed a year ago when I was planning it but it seemed to work quite well with the new suspension setup. I seem to be in the home stretch. I need to go over everything and tweak some things and then I need to epoxy the mobo tray mounts. I also have to decide on the finish. I know the internals and shell will be painted black, but that's all I've decided on. Oh yeah, I need a power button too... :duh:

    Thanks for reading!

Well, you didn't move a lot for a year, but since last week it's a real aluminium festival. I like it ! Your work reminds me a lot "Dark Blade", from G69T.

Oh, and for the internal finish, did you consider anodisation ?

Yea, I posted, blinked, and now look at it! Amazing progress! For the stand my thought would have been (though too late now) to take a cue from a bike/motor-bike stand, making it look like a parked mono-wheel.

Must not paint. Must honour the metal. Metal good. Metal pure. Worship the metal.

I'd love to anodize but I'm not sure I can afford it. I'm currently unemployed so I've been trying to keep spending to a minimum :sigh:. I am worried about actually getting paint into all the grooves, I tried with the scrap pieces and it's tricky. Maybe I can figure something out.

    Update!

First up for today is the power connector. Since I have the higher watt picoPSU it comes with the Kycon power plug instead of the normal barrel connector. Problem is, it looks like crap and there aren't any other jack available :p.

So I found some ham radio microphone connectors that look much nicer and should handle the higher current just fine.

Of course I modified them by machining off the lip that held the knurled nut on to the plug. That nut will then be used to mount the jack.

Of course I had to tweak the power switch too.

Used a step drill for the hole to mount the power jack.

I actually had the odd size tap to fit the threads on the power switch (M7x0.75).

Time to JB weld the mobo tray mounts.

What you don't see me doing now is six hours of sanding the body :wallbash:. The paint I bought (ceramic engine enamel) goes on really thin so I really had to prep the surface. The worst part was you could see the tool marks in the outside grooves through paint. So it took three hours with a Dremel and a chain saw sharpener to smooth them out :sigh:.

But I did get the body and feet painted, those are the only things that will be back.

The mobo tray and suspension will be raw aluminum. I might put some wax on them since I've never had any luck with clear coat looking right on brushed aluminum. While I give the paint a few days to cure I'll spend some time perfecting the finish on the rest of the pieces and start what little wiring there is.

    Thanks for reading!
