So many films are good so this is just the ones I have watched more than a few times. Kill Bill Vanilla sky Diary of a wimpy kid series Kick Ass Scott pilgrim vs the world
This is only 5 out of my top 50, loads more have equal weighting: An Ungentlemanly Act Bodyline Gideons Trumpet Nuremberg The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Has anyone mentioned Lawless yet? Tom Hardy's performance alone makes it one of my all time favourites.
This is a tough one. I'm sure my list changes all the time. Also made harder by the fact that I can't sort by rating for films I've rated in Netflix any longer. Currently: Heat Bronson Der Untergang Das Leben der Anderen Old Boy (2003) Special Mention: Pretty much any Michael Mann movie ( Last of the Mohicans, Miami Vice, etc ). Many Scorsese films ( Raging Bull, Casino, The Aviator, etc ). All Tarantino films. Glengarry Glen Ross Lost in Translation 12 Angry Men (1957) There Will Be Blood True Grit (2010) No Country for Old Men City of God Elite Squad The Raid The Machinist Ok, I need to cut myself off. +Films already mentioned here, and many other films .
Wow, so that list was in jest, and I would have thought the last stellar entry would have made that clear... I thought long and hard about my 5 top films and then decided it was too difficult to figure it out, so opted for 5 terrible films. Granted, Howard the Duck was a laugh when I was 6, but top 5 material? I'll try harder this time, in no particular order... Pulp Fiction Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco (It would feel improper to take two slots with one genre) Sound of Music (shut up) Heat - desperately looking forward to watching this again once my cinema renovation is finished Full Metal Jacket I'm not saying these are what I view as the five best films ever, but they're films that I could literally watch any time, any place, and not get bored of, ever. Indiana Jones and Star Wars Trilogies get an honourable mention. And if it was December, Elf.
There's your problem. You should have seen it when you were about 16 (I was 20). Then you would have appreciated the Lea Thompson knickers shot. There are many other films I could have added to my top five. Anything Studio Ghibli, the original Star Wars trilogy, Raiders of the Lost Ark (not the sequels), Terminator and Terminator 2 (not the sequels), ALIEN and Aliens (nor the sequels), The Matrix (not the sequels). Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Franklyn. Other honourable mentions: CE3K, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Labyrinth, Sneakers, Tremors, Muriel's Wedding (yes, really), Strictly Ballroom (yes, really), Nineteen Eighty-Four (the 1984 version), Contact.
Maybe I was a bit older than 6 (or maybe I was a horny 6 year old), I definitely recall the shot. These kids these days with their digital video and fancy pauses that don't totally corrupt the screen and wear the tape prematurely don't know how lucky they have it. It's just struck me that there are many members of this very forum who have likely never watched a VHS tape... for those members, this is what I mean - http://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/2...913cb7c560e6cbbf52a6418/youtube-tape-mode.jpg
Fight Club A Beautiful Mind Requiem for a Dream Martyrs American Beauty Obviously I enjoy things like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings other trilogies aswell but I guess their a given since 99.9% of people seem to like them.
Trainspotting The Deer Hunter (Christopher Walken totally shines in this film) The Outlaw Josey Wales Star Wars IV Persepolis (with subtitles, not the english one - can't explain why but it works better that way)
Really liked Mary Shelley's Frankenstein too, the one with Kenneth Branagh, Robert DeNiro and Helena Bonham Carter. The music was haunting.
As i think most of what i'd pick has been mentioned I'll add these - Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Little Shop of Horrors BASEketball M*A*S*H* The Ladykillers [the original, not the Tom Hanks abortion] Sin City Also The Lion King was the first film I ever saw at the cinema when I was 7, haven't watched it again in the 20 years since...
