Who watches The Great British Bake off?

I do but for an odd reason. I actually cannot eat solid food but find programs where visibly tasty looking food is created quite pleasing. I don't mean those ridiculous cooking shows where you have a tiny tower of stuff topped with foam surrounded in a pool of jus with a side order of thrice fried chips.

By the way anyone really eat that sort of food on a regular basis?

I want to see big pies and pastries, cream filled cakes and tarts. Yum yum.

I do not watch baking shows, no. This has a LOT to do with my allergy to eggs and nuts making most cakes and pastries really quite "Bleh whatever" to me.

But I do watch cooking shows (yes, the pretentious kind featuring that angry man).
Do I eat that stuff regularly - no.
But, I pick up ideas and techniques from there. I love cooking, and I cook for friends quite regularly. Occasionally, this stuff comes in handy, and I get all pretentious as well. :p

I watched it last night. Quite enjoyed it but the two comedians or whatever they are presenting the front lines always annoy me simply because they bring nothing to the show or actual baking but to say how much time is left in semi-funny/ cringe ways.

I don't watch it, but I don't watch much TV to be honest.

If I did, I probably would - I like making a mess in the kitchen.

I still have the thought that every cooking show should be narrated by the guy from Come Dine with Me.

I'm not one for cooking shows normally, i'm trying to lose weight. My dad loves this show though, he's obsessed.

Quite interesting so it's like your Porn.

Personally I can't stand cooking shows that woman's voice on the bbc one is annoying..

"Pete is making a lamb fragra with a side of mint encrute and mini chiplits"...I made that up but it all sounds like gibberish.

I am not ashamed to admit that I love the bake off - I am a keen baker (and, let's face it, cook too) and I like seeing what emerges from the minds of other foody sorts.

My main cooking passion is, however, slow cooked meat. That makes for a really tedious TV show...

I don't do thrice cooked, but when I make chips, I always fry twice - once at a low temperature to cook, again at a higher temperature to brown and crisp. My wife reckons I make the best chips she's tasted, but she may be biased ;)
I've just made my own sous-vide water bath using this guide from Instructables

But in answer to the OP, no I don't watch the Bake Off. I did watch the first series, but it's all so samey now.

hI, "The Great British Bake off" I have watched it a few times and it's not bad, I wouldn't recommend it to any one who may be trying to diet but to actually see some one chuck their creation (or mess) into a bin makes a change from some of the other food programmes.

One thing I will agree with is that voice used in food programmes it makes me want to smother her with a pillow.

haha you mean the almighty Mel and Sue!

Think they are a bit before your time :D

(They do my head in too)

it's not as good this week - last week there was hysteria over some ice cream or something, that was more fun. I don't really watch it, my girlfriend puts it on even after the disclaimer that she hates it.

Sweet, I might make one. I've got some vacuum bags handy. Plus an old shed of crap I could use to make it.

USA show, BBQ Pitmasters, is worth a watch if you like it slow and low. Typical cheesy format though. Watching brisket being sliced is almost as good as eating it.

I watch it. Always end up feeling hungry half way through. My Mrs like making cakes and shes rather good at it too, but there is no way I could make something as fancy as they do. Whilst it looks lovely, for the hours they take to make and how short a time it takes to eat !

I do remember enjoying a custard tart as a child. Nothing as fancy as last nights creations, just crumbly pastry and rich tasty custard with a caramelised top.
