I recently bought a Giant Revel 2 Mountain Bike Had it for about 6 weeks and ridden it alot (once my ass got used to the saddle ouch). I generally ride it out bring it home and put it away but I'd like to be able to ride it to the village post office and shop and leave it outside safely. I don't wanna go nuts with the lock but something half decent plus what sort of lock is best? I was thinking of the rope lock type so I can thread it through the front and rear wheels as they are quick release. Recommendations please
TBH, a coiled type lock should be sufficient. I think that the main function of a lock is a deterrent, if a thief really wants to steal your bike... they will!
Crimes pretty low here so it's just a peace of mind thing really, coiled one is what I was thinking as you say as just a deterent, I wouldn't be in either shop for more than a few minutes anyway to be honest.
Most coiled cable locks can be cut quickly with a pair of heavy duty wire cutters, I'd not trust an entire bike with just that. I'd not go for anything less than sold secure silver lock, ideally a D-Lock with a Cable loop for the front wheel. I have one of these for mine: http://www.fatbirds.co.uk/538474/pr...currency=GBP&gclid=CPD49bST2cACFUXLtAodvCsAyw Then lock the frame and rear wheel to secure object and the front wheel with the cable.
Ah sorry Atomic I posted at exactly the same time as you That looks like a good locking system and not too far above want I wanted to pay.
Oh that's nice just get a cheap coil lock. Btw where is this post office and about what time do you normally visit it?
I loved the design of that when I first saw it, it's just a shame it can be picked almost as easily as any other lock with a bump key
Ladies and gentlemen, step aside please. When it comes to bicycle locks, there is only one nation that understands bicycles and bicycle theft in equal measure. That nation is the Dutch. Presenting the ANWB* issue AXA bicycle lock: They look unassuming but I used to own one, and I can absolutely guarantee you that they are unpickable, uncrackable, unequalled. And (being Dutch) un inexpensive. * The ANWB is the Dutch equivalent of the AA or RAC in the UK. OK?
Here the local loinspew would probably just put superglue in the lock if they thought they couldn't nick it...
Please elaborate on this ? I use a kryptonite lock in my garage never actually locked my bike outside yet I just don't trust anyone not to nick it or atleast try to and reck it instead. Battery operated angle grinder will make light work no matter what lock you have.
Because this particular lock is intended to lock rear wheel to bikes frame, so that thief won't be able to ride with you bike. It does nothing to prevent them from simply running off with it.
