Hi, I'm building a PC for my friend and have it all put together but I'm getting no response from the monitors I've tried connecting it to.

I connected up a speaker but don't get any beeps, tried different RAM, different PSU, tried on board vga with mobo disconnected and connected GPU but neither will output to monitor.

    Specs of the build are:

    MSI H87m-e33
    Intel i5 4690 (s1150)
    Corsair 8gb 1600Mhz vengeance DDR3
    4GB XFX R9 290 DD

I don't have any other CPUs/Mobos from the same socket so is there anything else I can test or a way to narrow down what the issue is?

    Thanks in advance

Do the fans spin up ?
Does the PSU fan move when you power up ?

Yes fans spin up, GPU light comes on and PSU fan spins.
One strange thing though, the plugged in USB mouse and keyboard don't light up.

Just a quick thought, you're running what looks like a Haswell refresh CPU on H87. Is your BIOS updated to accept Haswell refresh CPUs?

AFAIK on H/Z97 will run them out of the box.../2p

No, I guess this is the problem then thanks. What's going to be the easiest/cheapest way to flash the BIOS to accept the 4690?

im sure the Pentium G1820 would work fine tho others would have to confirm, it can be had for £30.99 at amazon which is around £10 cheaper than the G3220

Looking on the compatability page it says the G1820 requires the BIOS 7817v55 instead of the 7817v50 for the G3220.

I'm not sure what BIOS it came with though, I would have thought v50 as that's the oldest available on the site.

hmm... a bit tricky, dont suppose that it would state on a sticker anywhere on the motherboard or box what firmware version it has?

It only says 7817 no version number on the box. I'm hoping someone will have something I can use.

Just saw your wanted note, I am in the same situation. I bought a Z87 board, but want to run a G3258 which is not supported by the BIOS from what I can tell, and can't afford an i5 at the moment.

I'm watching with interest to see if anyone has a CPU that's cheap and can do the trick for you. AM looking on the bay to do the same.

    Good luck with getting going

Unfortunately not, it seems only the more expensive ones can without a proc.

pity, its such a pain in the ass when you have to get something else you don't want or need just to use something
