My collection of parts now includes a CtrlAlt (Nerd) 60 pcb. So I have a case, pcb red springs, key caps and mystery assortment of Cherry stabs from Ivan's group buy (I can't remember what I ordered :()

I want to get some clears and lube now, is http://mechanicalkeyboards.com still the place to go?

Not that I've used mechanicalkeyboards.com but I'd use 7bit on Deskthority for switches and ctrlalt.io for lube (actually you could PM Margo about switches as I know they've got loads in stock for the JD40s)

So does anyone know where I can get replacement keycaps for an IBM Model M? I know you can get caps directly from Unicomp, but they're quite expensive and realistically I'd want to replace all but 36 (possibly 37) keys...

Sadly the store that used to sell them no longer seems to do so. Guess they just imported a few dozen sets to sell on or something.

Yeah, thanks for having a gander anyway :).

Standard alpanumeric caps - not including shift, ctrl, return, etc - are $0.80 a pop direct from Unicomp, and I need about $55 worth :/

Can't you just buy a whole set? They're like $30 iirc

Still trying to decide on a TKL to buy. Must be ANSI. Probably happy with Blues, clears or even browns. Standard layout is a must. Any thoughts?

I bought a new Shine 3 TKL from CCL yesterday, and it's arrived today but it's clearly either an ex-demo model or a customer return since it's covered in greasy fingerprints and dust, and the paperwork has all been well leafed though.

What do you reckon I should do? I've passed the ball back to CCL for the time being to see if they will concede, but I reckon at least some money back would be in order - selling used goods as new just ain't good news. At least I'm covered by PayPal in this case.

£150 though, accounting for import costs etc. If I talk myself into spending that much I think I'd probably get you to build me a GON Nerd TKL... components are under £200 right? I have switches.

I really shouldn't think about that idea too much or I'll want to do it :p

EDIT: Actually Shirty, now that I think about it, my Ducky TKL I used to have arrived (new) from CCL open-box with the key chain missing. Board was perfect so I just forgot about it, but does make me wonder if they have some less than honest habits :/

Blatantly they need to replace it at their own cost including the return shipping to them. That's very poor behaviour imo

A complete set of buttons yes, but unlike other mechs the buttons and caps are separate parts (except Return, Shift, Control, Tab, etc). The buttons I have are fine, it's only the caps I need to replace. If Unicomp sell a complete set of caps then I must have missed it :/.

I can live with it - I know my way around a standard keyboard layout - I'd just like something standard. Sadly the original IBM Model M's are just getting too old these days, parts seem to be getting harder to source.

Buttons is their word for caps - if you look at that pic they're not the bits from under the caps (the bits under the modifier keys for example are the same as the bits under the alpha caps).

    They're just unprinted caps.

    If you look here

    http://pckeyboard.com/page/Buttons/PSET

You'll see the options for printed caps - why would they offer separate options for 101 grey US and 101 pearl/pebble US if they were just the bits under the caps...

Email them to check if you're not certain but I'm 99.9% sure that I'm not wrong :)

Edit: And I realise that BS caps are two part - I've owned a couple IBM boards and still own a SSK :thumb:

"How long have Goldtouch made fullsized mechs?" he stupidly asked himself before zooming in...

    Looks good man.
