Yeah, it looks really good with the CMYK and the clear case, really happy with how it came out.

The PCB is the FaceU replica from the group buy on DT, I wanted something to play with whilst I was waiting for the GH60s. It's not fantastic, but it does a job as a test bed for trying new layouts and switches.

 

These keyboard layouts you lot are showing off are weird... I'm not sure I could use any of them, I'd miss my arrow keys, "Home" cluster, and numpad far too much.

 

External numberpad for the win

If you want a small board that's a halfway house, a Leopold FC660M (or C if you like Topre switches) is the one. Arrows and a small home block. I love mine!

To be perfectly honest I'm happy enough with my Model M beast at the moment, I just need to get some new caps with a proper layout (and none of this ASCII weirdness on the numpad). I might possibly need some new springs too, but that's going to be a bugger because it means bolt-modding the chassis...

I do like the look of the Leopold, but I've never actually used Cherry MX or Topre switches - I went straight from rubber dome to buckling springs. I really would like to have a nice mech for use in work - it needs to have good tactile feedback but low noise, or my colleagues will want to kill me. Have to get myself a switch sampler.

Yes, in its component parts. It needs switches and some fresh new LEDs though! Also a new paint job.

 

I think the massdrop one will be ANSI, which is what I dreamt of anyway when I originally got that cougar and they sent me an ISO one as they hated me. (not massdrop, amazon.)

 

I'm new to this thread, but it seems like it's just my kind of place I'm relatively new to the whole computer thing, being a first semester university student. Anyway, I've been through a couple of keyboards since I started delving into the rabbit hole that is mechanical keyboards. Anyway, that's neither here, nor there. The reason I decided to post today is, does anyone know of a company that can either 3d print some keycaps, or mill them? I'd like to get some new caps, but I'm not sure if I should just source a local company to do a custom printing/milling job for me, or if I should seek out a company that can do it more easily. Anyone know of anything?

What sort of caps is it you want to end up with? Particular shapes/colours/designs/clever something or other?

Lots of group buys run for keycaps, too - there are two big places that make caps, and our very own Margo Baggins and IvanIvanovich both run group buys.

Matt3o over on GH got a pumpkin keycap made at shapeways so they might be worth a look.

 

I think shapeways have quite a few keycaps, or at least, a few people get made keycaps printed there.

3d printed caps aren't great though.

 

I remember 3D printed caps being mooted a while ago and the consensus at the time was that the resolution of the printers available at the time wasn't high enough to make good quality caps. I'm not sure how the tech has come along since then but I wouldn't imagine it was enough to make good quality, affordable caps an option...

 

There's a 3d printing place by my office, actually. I would be happy to pop in and chat to them, time permitting, if that might be helpful?

 

I can't imagine that they would be very durable, and the finish probably wouldn't be great unless you have access to a high-end 3D printer or a laser sintering 3D printer.
