    Regulation changes

    Technical regulations
    • The number of power units that a driver may use in a season will be reduced from five in 2014 to four in 2015.
    • The rules regarding the points-trading system for engine development that were introduced in 2014 will change, with the manufacturers allowed to perform half the development permitted in 2014; the development will be halved again in 2016.
    • Following the backlash over "ugly" nose designs in 2014, the FIA moved to amend the rules surrounding nose designs for the 2015 season. Noses will now be lower than in 2014, retaining a minimum cross section, but they must taper to a point at a fixed linear rate, effectively outlawing the dramatic finger shapes seen in 2014 in favour of a more gradual shape. Furthermore, the design of the nose must be symmetrical and consistent with the centreline of the car, thereby banning the more exotic designs, such as the "twin-tusk" approach used by Lotus on the E22 chassis.

    Sporting regulations
    • The procedure for restarting a race after the safety car has been deployed will change in 2015. Instead of the traditional single-file rolling restart with the pace controlled by the race leader, the drivers will return to the starting grid for a standing restart controlled by the race director. The exception will be if the race is in the last five laps, in which case a rolling restart will be used.
    • The partial ban on pit-to-car communication introduced at the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix will be extended to include a blanket ban on sharing technical data between team and driver, such as specific fuel consumption settings.

I'm freaking out a little about McLaren's driver choice.

If BOTH JB and Alonso depart F1 for WEC or something else, I may lose interest altogether.

Alonso + Button at McLaren with Magnussen on loan to Torro Rosso until either Alonso or Button retire due to age seems to be pretty much the only possibility left to keep them in the sport.

I think KMag will get bumped to the 3rd driver slot for a year and Button will be kept on for one more year to help with the Honda Transition...

STR are a young driver team but they tend to go for their own [RB's Young Driver Program] young drivers I can't really see them taking KMag on...

Still not 100% convinced Alonso will end up back at McLaren...

EDIT: As Kravitz pointed out in his post-race bit - Button's results have saved McLaren a crapload of money, his result today ensured FIndia didn't overtake them in the constructors and if FIndia had overtaken them McLaren would've lost a boatload of prize money.

I'll probably say this a lot in the next month, if Mclaren Honda are serious about the constructors they need Alonso and Button. Alonso and Button this year would have been good for fourth in the constructors instead of fifth, next year or the year after the performance gap between Button and K-mag could mean first or third instead fourth or fifth (assuming Honda+Money+Prodromou and friends come good).

K-Mag in next year's Mclaren is Mclaren admitting they aren't going to win anything next year, he couldn't even out qualify Button consistently, he's not fast enough.

Exactly, looking at the drivers championship Button has 126 points to Kmags 55.
I wouldnt be suprised if Honda stick their oar in and demand button. Its better to have to very expeirenced drivers to manage the transistion. Also Button has a history with Honda.

Something I remembered from the commentry. they mentioned that they had strapped a Honda lump into the current car. i know honda wont be allowed to look under the lid so to speak but as i think Brundle mentioned they will get a tonne of data from sensors on the car which is just about as good. If they and the other teams are looking to make the performance step thats been rumoured (around a second) it should be interesting. Also i was reminded by someone i know at RBR, Renualt poached an engne designer from Merc which could prove useful.

Now for the 2015 mud sling.

    Hamilton becomes triple champ
    Massa runner up
Red Bull Renault vastly improved, but reliability haunts them again, Dan Ric third overall
Rosberg to struggle against Williams and RB, fifth behind Ham, Mas, Ric and Bot
Mclaren Honda to be a mess, improving as year progresses, if he's present JB to beat Alonso. If not Alonso stomps K-Mag (or Stoffelcake) into the ground. Maybe they'll win something (Brazil 2012 seems such a long way away now).
Ferrari to be a worse mess, Kimi and Seb to go do something else
Sauber fail to survive the season
Lotus vastly improved with Merc power, but lagging behind Merc/Williams/FI due to unfamiliarity and the presence of Pasta

    My predictions

    • Mercedes will still have the best car on track, but not as dominant.
    • Williams to continue to impress
    • McLaren to actually produce a good car and fight for 2nd/3rd in the constructor championship with Williams
    • RedBull to come out with the fastest car on track, but get banned after it's found they are using some illegal rocket fuel, with active suspension, and a hidden double diffuser. Or more likely they build a car capable of 3rd/4th
    • VJ will get arrested for some dodgy business dealings and Force India will be sold on.
    • Hamilton to win his third title
    • Alonso to finish second with Kevin falling in somewhere about 5th or 6th never to be seen again
    • Button to leave and drive WEC
    • Ricciardo to finish 3rd, better than one would expect from the car
    • Rosberg to come in 4th as the Merc is not as dominant
    • Bottas and Massa to take 5th and 6th, not sure which
    • Vettel will regret the move to Ferrari, only finishes 7th
    • Kimi will hate the car, it will be designed around Vettel, and see out his last season in 8th or 9th
    • Hulk will again score higher than Perez

Now this year's random guesswork -

The McLaren Honda will be epic... or an epic failure... I can see it being one extreme or the other...

Ferrari will have another shocking year, with neither driver demonstrating their former teammates ability to drag results out of a bad car...

Someone will have found a rules loophole, and the other teams will bitch about it and try and have it banned [until they can exploit it themselves] -- that one's always a safe bet...

Ecclescake will come out with more retarded fan-alienating utterances...

Mercedes [Engine] will still dominate things but Mercedes [Team] may not...

Maldonado will crash a lot and Lotus will be meh... but will make it up in lolworthy tweets...

Alonso finishes the season with a hobo beard...

EDIT: in case anyone's wondering why the German GP is still 'TBA', iirc there is/was an issue with the event sharing agreement between Hockenheim and the Nurburgring

Have to say, can't wait to see how the 2015 season unfolds, just a wait before it does.

If JB isn't at McLaren next season I'm throwing my toys out of the pram! I think he would have an excellent relationship with the Honda engineers and it would be a brilliant partnership. I predict the Honda power unit will be excellent, they will have had a whole year or more of additional time for R&D, testing etc compared to the other teams, and if you think their F1 R&D was completely canned when they exited the sport in 2008 I'd be willing to bet against you.

If McLaren can build (or have built) the chassis to utilize it and keep up with developments and upgrades as the season progresses, they will be a force to be reckoned with. It needs all of the correct ingredients though, which in my honest opinion are; Jenson Button & Fernando Alonso at the wheel, Honda power unit being a brilliant, reliable performer and an awesome McLaren car built around it with aero and handling to keep pace with the front runners as well as constant development through the course of the season. Williams have gotten their finger out and made serious advances up the grid this season, I think it's time McLaren did the same.

This is why I think Button will be at McLaren next year, albeit only for a year.

When the 'Alonso to McLaren' rumours surfaced my initial reaction was along the lines of 'Alonso knows something we don't', especially given how his last spell at McLaren went...

but as I said in my predictions, I see the McLaren being one extreme or the other, it'll stomp everything in sight or be an utter disaster...

    So my 2015 predictions:

    Merc to win WCC again.
    Merc Power dominates again.
Lotus back fighting in the midfield.
    Caterham not on the grid.
    Red Bull fastest non-Merc car.
Ferrari (what with the change in management - again) in shambles, but rebuilding, thanks to a driver pairing that can deliver.
Kimi still unhappy with the brakes, getting solidly beaten by Seb.
Hamilton to dominate his teammate and take his third WDC (at least that's what I am hoping for).
McLaren back stronger, but not quite challenging Williams.
