I'd go with black and silver - so I vote black.

Right next update, so the cylindrical leadscrew nuts needs to be square to fit in between the bearing blocks so time for the mill to do it's job.

So we start with this



And the milling is started



And end up with this, I'll have to reduce it by a bit more but need to leave enough depth of metal to drill and tap a thread in two places.



This is how the system will be placed





The leadscrew nut has to be able to run along the X axis leadscrew freely and will be fixed to the Z axis

 

So mixed then? Not sure about snot green lol

I would have expected that from Flame

 

Quick update

Put the X axis back on to see how the leadscrew line up





Lines up great the leadscrews are dead centre so all I need to do is fix the motor mount one end and the free running bearing the other of each leadscrew

 

It just looks friggin' awesome, like the unholy ******* offspring of an industrial CNC and a Victorian steam locomotive.

 

Bit rough ATM but once it's done I'll take it apart and refine and paint it might even do a couple more upgrades

 

It would be great to the see the results if your hard and long work.

I like it rough. Er... TBH I would not paint it at all. I think it has a unique look.

Anyway, step away from the upgrades now. Or as shinji2k says we'll have to stage an intervention... and we need it functioning because Camille is going to need a lot of CNC work...

Problem is the rust will spread to the rails it already has on the back of one so I need to do something about it

Lol actually I wish it was finished then I can start getting my head around the software although I'm really enjoying the challenge unlike my bank account , May still have to change the motors for something with more torque there's a lot of metal to be moved.

Going to have to wait until it's done before I can test it, I'm contemplating cutting a chunk of the X axis angle iron out it won't weaken it but will reduce the weight by a fair bit

Quite right Dave I was thinking of making a glass case for it, would look great on the sideboard

 

Matt acrylic varnish?

I'd have it in my living-room. Instead of a coffee table. Best thing is, my wife would probably agree (she likes engineering).

Na wouldn't do that I like the feindly warmth of the place

tbh it's been a long old log but it has been the first build plus upgrades to that then a rebuild of it and now a completely different machine.

Anyway only had time to start on the end plates which will have the motor and bearings mounted on and will be the feet for the machine as well

Got the back leg done and in place with the motor mount and bits on





I can turn the leadscrew by hand with little effort and it moves the X axis easily, perfect once I'm sure I'll do a few tack welds to hold it all in place.
