News Razer launches open-source OSVR project

Oooh! Might have to try my hands at building one of these... *registered*

 

This is what Occulus should have been.

 

So everyone and their grandma is now trying to come up with their own VR system...

Won't that result in huge issues with software support if developes have to choose which one to support?

 

I think who ever makes a Vr system that isn't naff, with an open SDK, will win the VR race.

I think if company XYZ released one tomorrow to retail, I think the rift would be quickly forgotten.

 

This looks promising, if they put as much effort into this as the rest of their range I might actually buy one.

(also if they don't sell out to facebook)

 

Even if they do, the project is open source. Worst case scenario, it would be forked.

 

Theres a handful of these all cropping up now, wonder how many other companies have something in the pipeline but havent announced yet, and who'll gatecrash when things start looking up. Certainly seems plausible that companies like Dell, Asus etc could join in, plus the inevitable rebrands that follow.
