Further to this thread http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=280914 I am still researching 970 cards and really like the offering from MSI but for one major problem. My colour scheme is blue and white and this is red so will look out of place no matter how good the card is. My next choice is Evga GPU or waiting on this EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Cheesecake+ ACX 2.0+ Or even the Asus but that one is less likely as I think it is ugly with the pipe coming out the top. Then I had another look at my finances and the possibility of getting a 980 looks possible. If so is it worth it? And which one? So looking for advice on both the 970 which to be honest is a more realistic purchase or the slight chance of the 980.
I've used both MSI and EVGA 970's, the EVGA 970 is a great card. I don't think you could go wrong with either tbh, Edwards just bought an msi iirc so I will point him to this thread for you. I guess it would come down to whatever the warranty/returns is like on both the cards. I do prefer the EVGA looks & cooler though personally (I have an EVGA 780, had an MSI 570).
Personally I find a 970 to be more than enough performance, so I've never seen much worth in stepping up to a 980. Others who crave for extreme performance or higher resolutions (I game on a single 1440p IPS monitor) might differ from my view though. Considering your desire to stick to the blue & white theme, have you considered the white KFA 970? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-009-GX&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1010 Or the white PNY 980: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-...0mhz-gddr5-1127mhz-boost-1216mhz-3x-minidp-mi
I've got a EVGA 970 SC lemon Cheesecake ACX 2.0 (one of those may not be part of its name) Great card, very quiet. Bit-tech's review is outdated. Current BIOS used in the retail channel has fixed the noise issue in the review. Personally, I feel just getting one amongst cheapest of the bunch is the way forward. I got my 970 during black friday sale, which bought it down to the cheapest 970 selling normally. The very cheapest during the sale is only £10 or so cheaper.
To be honest I don't think I will go the 980 route, what little research I have done I have not come across one saying must have this card for the ordinary gamer. And they are really not worth the price as far as performance increase goes. Will need to review the white KFA 970 and I believe the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4096MB
980 isn't worth the extra cash I feel. I bought the MSI 4G and it's without doubt the quietest gpu I have ever owned (having owned 2 twin frozrs and a gigabyte windforce). Playing BF4 it hardly spins up at all. I agree with the colour scheme though as red doesn't fit in with my case but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make. It annoys me when gpu manufacturer's colour their cards as it's only going to fit in with a fraction of peoples preferences, why can't they do say a plain black card and give you coloured accents that snap on similar to what some fan manufacturers do. Or have clear lenses and adjustable colour leds.
It was my choice but I am not having the red of the GPU to spoil my overall look. Pity as it looks a really good card.
I'd hold off on the 970 until they establish if theres a hardware fault or driver issue, apperently it starts losing bandwidth when approx 3.5gb of vram is used: http://www.overclock.net/t/1535502/gtx-970s-can-only-use-3-5gb-of-4gb-vram-issue/170#post_23443729 https://forums.geforce.com/default/...k-gathering-low-gpu-load-and-other-issues-/1/
I was just coming the exact same think. That is bloody spooky unless you were reading the same thread over at Overclockers.
I'd go for the 970 every day of the week*, unless you find an absolute bargain 980. The price difference is even more ridiculous now than it was at launch. *I didn't, but I would.
Just the excuse you needed to break the bank then! If it helps, my 980 is hands down the nicest card I've ever owned, and I went 8800GTX, GTX280, GTX580, GTX670, 7950, GTX770, GTX980. The cooler is whisper quiet, it's cool running and efficient, it's unbelievably fast and hugely overclockable. But it's about £100 to expensive to make it a sensible purchase for most peeps - it's the emotional choice. Such a sweet cooler: I'm considering a subtle window mod/case change just to show it off.
I ordered a MSI 970 today at a price of £266.45 inc delivery https://www.theelectrohut.com/?q=gtx 970
Your link is broken and as I have already stated the colour of this GPU clashes with my all blue and white build.
Theelectrohut.com is DOWN for everyone. It is not just you. The server is not responding... So yu may check later,,, I postd here becuz many ppl r also researching multiple postz - so its just sharing..thankyu sir
The thread on the Anandtech forums where they've been discussing this has results for the 980 and original titan doing the same.
