As suspected it didn't take long before someone decided to sue Nvidia. :D

So, would people here be recommending that we don't buy the 970? (I'm thinking about one...)

Yeh should be fine at that res. For reference while running Far Cry 4 on near max settings and was getting around 70fps @19x12.

My 970s have been accepted for a full refund with Scan. My two EVGA 980s purchased for a good sized discount are sat happily in my rig, overclocked, and performing with visibly less stutter in games such as SoM @ 4k.

Anandtech reported [0] some responces from Nvidia that suggest at that resolution it will still be a perfectly fine card, and they have a more detailed look at the how it works [1] and why (marketing faux pas). For 99% of people it is unlikely to make any significant difference and the other 1% would be better served with 980 regardless. The most likely to be effected are OpenCL/Cuda eniviroments where buying more 970s could be a better fit then fewer 980s

A pair of 980s perform better than a pair of 970s? Say it ain't so? :p

Still, you can never have too much GPU power.

Which is why I didn't consider the 970 a compromise.... or being "cheap", but why I'm worried about people still wanting to get rid of them due to SLI problems.

970 SLI seems to perform incredibly well... but I'm still no nearer being able to tell if this stuttering is a 970 problem, or caused by something else.

dizzi... how easy was it to get Scan to return them?

You like to troll people. Go away.

One phone call, RMA arranged. Most card vendors are accepting returns now. FYI there is a cut off date been set. MSI for instance is the 20th of February.

I will be back later to take your score to the cleaners. That was my first run :thumb:

Edit: with my morning toast, I grabbed another 1,000 points :)

Also Pookey, don't have doubts listening to the naysayers on here. There is without question issues with the 970s running extreme settings with more than one card, as was your intention.

I had one evening with the 980s last night, and the difference is blindingly obvious.

How did you bag the 980 discount?

stuttering in SLI is a well documented issue. Its been prevalent in every single SLI setup since the dawn of time.

Check out any of TechReports 'inside the second' coverage for more info.

Oh whatever. I see you have firmly ensconced your head in the sand. Likely because of the GPU in your signature.

I have personally compared 2 x 970 with 2 x 980, both running at 4k, and the 970s have got a problem when they use the slower partition of memory, which was never reported by Nvidia it had (!). Vendors are accepting returns, which says it all. This thread has run its course for me.

And yet you are the one who bought a card that was never intended to be the card of choice for 4k in the Maxwell lineup, and are desperatly trying to blame the performance on the segmented memory rather then poor research (the poor research is unrelated to the segmented memory btw).

I cannot understand the point of some of the pointless bickering on this thread. The 670 has an issue, vendors are excepting returns because of this issue. If you don't want to return your GTX 970 because you are happy with it great. If you do want to return the card because you have doubts then surely that is also fine.

Why the decent into childish squabbling is beyond me but it has shown to me certain members in a very different light and I will be wary in future of any dealings with them.

I agree with you. It was never my intention to fall out with people on here.

What is said in the thread stays in the thread, I do not plan to hold anything against anyone.
