This has been out of the external box but the internal packaging has damage in this area. For 469 quid I want perfection so it goes back.
If it has taken a big enough hit to bend the plate through the packaging, I'd send it back as well! Photograph the damage to the packaging too, Glenn. You can never have too much evidence.
That is shocking, surely it would have had to been hit really hard or put under some fairly high pressure for that amount of bend in the backplate... those things aren't particularly flimsy. I'd agree, definitely send it back and demand one that isn't malformed.
corr that's a right bit of bad luck! I can't imagine the impact it must have taken to do that through packaging.
That has certainly not been the result of a short fall on to any surface as the bend is almost machine made. I did mention to Overclockers customer service that my house is carpeted throughout so even If I dropped it I was unlikely to cause the damage. So it is next week now. Give me time to do a couple of other things, new AOI and drilling and fitting of momentary switch.
No problem I said that I had the package less than ten minutes and would be virtually impossible to the damage that the card has sustained on a carpeted floor. This looks like it has fallen on a very hard surface from a fair height. UPS will collect tomorrow. Of course I have no idea what the returns department are going to decide. But I have not had issues in the past. I had a case that looked as though it had been used as a football and replaced without issue.
Any news on your RMA with OverClockers? Contemplating going for the MSI reference design 980, but am a bit concerned about having a damaged card after seeing what happened to your purchase.
Someone on Overclockers forum also received a damaged 980, a bend in the top part of the IO plate, but was very minimal and sorted it out himself. Picked up on Friday by UPS should arrive back at Overclockers sometime today so hopefully will hear from them once they have had a look at the item. Will post back if and when I hear from them.
Just got this from Overclockers. "The product GX-204-OK on RMA RMA278345 will be sent to you on a new order with order number 4632525. This will be despatched as soon as possible, subject to stock availability." So we wait again. Hopefully will get an email saying it is on it's way and I will get it tomorrow.
