Hey. I Need an upgrade and I've been looking at GTX 770, 280X and GTX 960.

Not really sure what to go for tbh.

I was thinking of going for a 770 but the availability is low as the 900 range has been released, and there's a few issues with these?

Are there any other cards due to be released soon that might be worth considering?

BF4 performance is paramount as its pretty much the only game I play.

    Any pointers much appreciated. :thumb:

i have a 280x, i can max the game with no frame drops at 1200p no problem with or without mantle.
    Your CPU may struggle tho

960 for cool and quiet running.

280X for absolute max frame rate in BF4 specifically.

But overall a 960, only slightly slower but much less heat and noise to shift.

At your resolution, your CPU is going to hold you back. You need to be at 1080P or greater for the CPU bottleneck to shift to a GPU bottleneck.

I'd personally go for a second hand card. You can pick up a 7950 for £100 and they're monster cards. You should also increase the overclock on your CPU. There's no reason it can't push 3.6 GHz, unless it's a B3 chip.

I'd go for a 280/280X, 2gb on a video card is going to give you issues in certain games.

Not forgetting that a 280X gives you access to Mantle in Battlefield 4 which is going to give you an improved gaming experience over DirectX. :)

    For £200 cant you get a 290?

I know it will be bottlenecked by a Q6600 currently but it is such a better card over a 280X which is just a 7970 rebadged.

Cpu will be upgraded soon :) very good pointers so far. I think I'm leaning on the 280x but might be getting a mini ITX case for my next upgrade so if I do this ill go for a 960. Thanks everyone.

Shame you didn't want one a couple of weeks back, there was the PCS 290 on overclockers for £199.

I bought my 770 while I still had my q6600 in my main rig and it massively bottlenecked the card, upgrading my processor almost doubled the performance I got out of it.

At your slightly lower res you might notice some more gain but you are always going to be limited by that CPU.

As you've said you'll struggle to find a 770 anymore. The 280x is only slightly slower but gives you the extra 1GB vram which some games are already making use off.

Otherwise as already said stretch for the 290.

If it was my money I'd get a 960 with the mindset of potentially getting a second one for SLi in the future.~

But best bang for buck card at the moment is definitely the 290.

I'd rather flush my money down the toilet than buy XFX. It's well worth spending a little more to get a decent brand.

    TLDR;

    There is a 290 in the marketplace for £160, that's a solid card for bf4 :)
