Hi, I'm looking for a cheap KVM switch that will allow me to use two computers with two monitors. Reason being is that I work from a home office in the garage, I also have a home office in my house, however due to having another baby, my home office is also moving into the garage. Ideally I'd like to run both computers and be able to switch KVM between the two with a two monitor setup. And I'm currently using DVI for both systems. Any cheap options out there the switches I've seen thus far ar £150 + Thanks Tim
Most cheap ones only do VGA ALTEN make ones that will do DVI I have one I've been thinking of selling, if you're interested PM me
Aten make some great switches. Make sure you get one with DVI and a decent speed USB port (my old Aten only has USB 1.0, which I didn't realise at first). However, I got a four-machine VGA switch that allowed me to connect my Xbox, 2 PCs and a laptop to twin screens for about £90 a few years back. Think it was a CS1744 from memory.
You could always look at selling all the monitors you have now, using the costs to recoup into buying something like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-129-LG&groupid=17&catid=2898 It will allow you to have: 1 PC at 'dual screen' but on one monitor and switch between the two. 2 PC at single screen each, but on one monitor. So essentially, it is a KVM in itself for the screen. You just have to work out/decide on a keyboard/mouse solution but it might make your options easier.
+1 on this, it's awesome. Someone posted it in the thread I made a little while ago about KVMs, gave it a try, and I use that most of the time now rather than the KVM switch I bought. I just wanted to use 1 kb & mouse on two computers, not on one monitor. Mouse without borders seamlessly switches between screens like they're just extended desktops on the same machine, and the ability to drag and drop files over is great too.
Yea! I like it a lot, I use it at work all the time. I like the fact that you can copy and paste text between systems as well
