Hmm maybe - it was a new switch that MB and I soldered in a few weeks ago - I might have it apart and have a look. Else I wonder if there's a rogue bit of solder on the PCB? It's way annoying though...

I've never come across that kind of thing myself. I've had switches fail due to me putting a screwdriver through the diode (yup, I'm a pro) but that's about it

Aha - thanks - good call! I wonder if the diode isn't sitting quite properly? It sometimes takes a bit longer than it should for the 'e' to trigger, and sometimes it triggers later than you'd expect!

Might have to take it back to Margo's surgery...

If you've just replaced the switch it might be a dry/dodgy joint although if Mister Baggins did it I'd be suprised if that were the case...I doubt a bit of solder on the PCB would be the cause either, that would more likely show short-like symptoms (ie e being continuously pressed down).

Could also be a bit of dirt or fluff or something in there I guess...Take the cap off, press the stem down and give it a blow (or a blast with some air if you don't want to cover your board in spit).

I'm in the process of bringing a janky old Alps board back from the brink at the moment and most of the keys on that chatter like a *******. My method so far (which has been surprisingly successful) has been to press the key down really, really hard for a few seconds and then tap it like a mad bugger for a few seconds. Rinse and repeat until the chatter goes away. Not sure it'd do anything for a Cherry switch but it might be worth a go...

I might whip the top off the switch later to see what's going down... Interestingly enough, if I hold it down, it doesn't repeat!

Yeah - is the switch! Boo!

(EDIT: And now it seems to be behaving, after taking it apart, tinkering with it, and putting the cap back on. Win!)

    I might've seen it mentioned somewhere...:D

I have untold amounts of Cherry switches laying around, and I've got a couple of hundered Gaterons coming soon as well...

Glad it's working again though, my money is on a rogue dust-bunny that escaped when you opened the switch.

Haha one can never have too many switches (or even enough switches?) :D

I suspect that it wasn't quite 'settled' when it was put back together after slotting a diode in, it needed disassembly, a brief puff of air, a poke of the leaf spring, and then careful(!) (how many switch bottoms have I broken being ham-fisted?!) reassembly. Then - e-based success :D

Flavour of the month switch, cheap Cherry clones that are supposedly much nicer feeling than the originals.

I've not tried any yet so I'm reserving judgement...I am getting a board I paid for nearly 2 years ago "soon" though so maybe I'll make it a Gateron switch tester.

I've got 62g korean springs on the way to go in my JD40 (clears). Should be good! I've reached the point where I have a big bag of switch housings then little labelled boxes with for all manner of sliders and springs. It's all mix and match!
