Surely the insurance man is going to fist you? You must have two years NCB by now but still. Ow.

 

20 with 3 years no claims shouldn't be too bad as im going with modified car insurance and being part of clubs/associations does help, also a lot down to sdp/mileage/location/job etc etc

 

I can't decide what you're talking about car wise, but chances are if it's an MX-5, there'll be owners clubs with insurance discounts, it might even be considered a modern classic, and there's very likely some specialist insurers (Greenway, Need2Insure, Boncaster et al) who do a reasonable job of insuring fast road/track cars.

Hell, my RS is only £428 (or there abouts) despite not having any no claims against it (two years on the other car) and 200+ bhp at the wheels.

I know that my bro insures with Adrian Flux, and with club memberships etc, his 'tinkered with' wagons (including a 350bhp+ Impreza which he recently sold on) weren't bonkers money to insure.

That impreza was fun though...

 

Greenway and flux are both very modified mx5 friendly, both of which advertise on our biggest forum and do discounts, also being part of the "mx5owners club" also puts you in good standing with many insurers

However my friend who has just turned 19 has recently bought a new focus ST which has about 250bhp as standard and believe he is only paying about 900 fully comp

 

Aye, you mod a standard car and you get reamed, you do something mental with a 'sporty' car and you get it cheaper.

I've heard good and bad things about Flux, I had a laid up policy with them for a year, but their on the road insurance for the RS was mental. Closer to 1k. Same with the RSOC, in fact, insurance discounts are the only reason I pay my membership there. £35 a year for ~£200 discount on insurance suits me just fine. Also, the magazine is sometimes good.

 

I'm looking at buying a Hyundai coupe 1.6 has anyone got any experience with these?

Indeed, I was nothing to do with the owners club, nor would they with me, they are too much into their standard un-molested mx5's with chrome thrown on ever surface, but hell it gives me a decent insurance discount and I get a free mag so all is good

 

Eugh, tell me about it. "Stainless" and "chrome" are basically every other word on the FRS section of RSOC. "Carbon effect" is rearing its ugly head too.

Adrian Flux all the way with modified or classic. When I insured my Mk RS2000 a few years ago I just went for classic. Bloke on the other end gave me a price I was happy with but he thought the standard of restoration we did was worth it and agreed value. I got it valued and it was 5k (way over the top at the time for a decent one but a snip now). The premium was actually less despite in theory entitled to more if I wrecked it/was nicked.

I have had a Mk II Cortina for £48 a year six years ago for 2000k miles annually. This year if I 'mod' my current bmw by putting an aftermarket box or change the alloys (mods according to a standard insurer) I can actually save £30 on my current premium which granted is only £210 a year but I can't have the flux policy without the mod ! Not going to by a differnt box just to get £30 discount, but when I do need a back box I will replace with aftermarket and then go with Flux.

 

Haha. That would be ace. Imagine the Darwinism that would ensue, and the fewer idiots that roam this green earth, the better, no?

Go figure. Bonkers, isn't it. The more I read, the less I understand how car insurance actually 'works' in terms of pricing!

 

£900 is very reasonable, I expected it being towards £2k. Clearly I need to brush up. I'm also with Flux

That V8 sounds great, at least on Youtube. Supposedly a better machine that the M3 by all accounts.

 

Not sure about the colour scheme, but a very cool choice. The new hot-V turbo engine is a fascinating bit of kit, although the old M156 is rather special.

Do I recall correctly that you had the last-gen C63 as well? Keen to hear what you think between the two of them once you've had a chance to take it around the block a few times.
