So they want to bring it in under the guise of stopping terrorism, but it's going to make them money by catching tax fraudsters.

If the content is under lock and key, how is web browsing and sender/recipient going to help catch tax fraudsters, unless they already have suspects, in which case, why do they need unwarranted access to everyones communications data? It's just so laughably full of holes it's unbelievable...no wait, what am I saying, with these governments, it's entirely believable.

If you have nothing to hide why be worried?

Privacy seems to have become synonymous with illegal activity and I'm not sure why. I don't believe I have anything to hide, but I still shut the door when I take a crap.

So you'd have no problem with a government accessible "security" camera placed inside your home?
If you have nothing to hide why be worried.

It's not a good view to take on these matters.

Tell that to a government that routinely hides things.

The nothing to hide argument is a paradoxical argument.

The "Nothing to hide" argument deviously puts the burden of proof of innocence on the accused, rather than the burden of proof of guilt on the accuser. Not how the law is supposed to work: under Justinian Codes and English Common law, the accused is presumed innocent and does not have to issue proof of this; the prosecution must issue proof of his guilt.

By reading those links above, you are (in the eyes of the government), an EXTREMIST, with EXTREMIST views, and you actively pursue your EXTREMIST agenda according to your in depth tracked web history.

An extremist view is deemed to be any which does not tow the party line.

You could not make it up...haha

The quote "You have nothing to fear, if you have nothing to hide" was coined by Joseph Goebbels, the Minister of Propaganda of Germany in the 1930's & 1940's (Yes, I know I Godwinned the thread! :)). Today we have current politicians like Williiiam Hague saying it.

Also, this is a quote from David Cameron from a couple of weeks back - "For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone"

Apparently obeying the law isn't enough. If that isn't worrying I don't know what is!!

Yeah, that humdinger raised my eyebrows too. Apparently society shouldn't be tolerant either.

But the most worrying bit is: Cameron channels Kim Jong-Un, and nobody calls him on it. :sigh:

They want to get away from common law and replace it with legislation. But legislation is not law. It is there to replace law with the will of government.

In any case, it is getting more Orwellian by the day.

As someone has already Godwinned the thread I don't have to feel guilty about dropping the Godwin H bomb. ;)
