So... while my Rapid-i is away for RMA I dug out my trusty G80-3000.

I'll be damned, I appear to have gone off heavy switches! I am no longer a fan of Panda Clears.

Just spent the British GP sitting at my desk swapping them out for Brown switches springs and stems.

Did your fingers go soft from lack of exercise? [emoji6]
Put then springs back in and think of it as a workout [emoji2]

TBH I think the mechanical keyboard experience is characterised by constantly changing tastes. I'm back on my Dell AT101W for now (mostly because I need dedicated arrow keys atm) and I have to say it's growing on me again... but MX Blues still take the cake. I think that either a TKL or a Leopold would suit me just fine; I'm really missing my arrows!

I'm the other way round from Spreadie... having used Browns for so long I much prefer the heavier Blues. I have yet to directly compare the Blues in my V60 with the Blues in my bro's G80-3000, which may be even heavier.

Have you any interest in a Leopold, mate? I'm still considering shifting mine!

I can't go without arrow keys in work, which is a bit sad I guess. I'm still very much enjoying my Ducky TKL with blears in - it's really lovely to type on.

Awesome photograph is awesome. Seriously, that is such a nice shot!

In other news: My replacement Rapid-i was delivered today - this has brought balance to the force.

Work just gave me an ancient Elonex mechanical keyboard with blues.

It still uses an old DIN5 connector so I need to work out how to get it communicating with my PC, and it needs a really good clean so I might end up taking it all apart.

Anyone know anything about these? My research so far is coming up dry.

I'm wondering if it might be a rebranded Cherry? I will get some photos up shortly.

No idea about that exact model but a DIN5 - PS2 adapter might be all you need. That worked a treat with the G80-3700 I have here.

    Edit: Pics!

Here's the pic. I'm going to be giving it a damn good cleaning too. Its been sat under a desk at work attached to an ancient (like over 15 year old) voicemail system.

I will order that adapter now.

I'm interested but hesitant because I've spent like £300 on Lego in the past few weeks (no joke). I'll hang fire just now and have a think about it. :thumb:

Krikey that looks exactly like my fathers first home PC, an old (now) 386... if memory serves it had a 2Mb ram and a 32Mb HDD... but it was a lot of years ago now so I may be mistaken...

That Elonex looks awesome, great find! The advantage of being sat under a desk for 15 years --> it's not too yellow, looks like it'll clean up great.

It's all very quiet around here...

Anyone heard from our man Margo Baggins lately? He went quiet on me after a brief chat about guitar pedals and I'm worried he's had some kind of horrible soldering accident and now has a PCB permanently attached to his face or something...

He is alive and well. He updated his facebook 2 hours ago. :p
Like others have said, he spent his birthday in Amsterdam but he is probably swamped by work right now. That's also the main reason he pulled away from the mech keyboard game for a bit. It can be very time consuming as we all know. ;)

No worries, I assumed he was way too busy so I won't add to it! Was just checking he was still alive [emoji14]

Okay, I just impulse bought a Cherry G80-3000 with QWERTZ layout (this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000OXI5UK/ ) as my first mechanical keyboard.

    Good move? Bad move?
Is it easy to convert to QWERTY either just in software, or maybe by swapping keycaps as well? I've been meaning to brush up on my touch tpying anyway...

I believe it has black switches. Am I going to hate it? :)

I figure it was a reasonable way to dip my toe into the water.
It was £14 on a very good condition warehouse deal (I guess a return because it was DE layout...) so I decided was worth a punt.
Ah Amazon prime, the impulse purchaser's best (and worst) friend.

Just plug it into your machine and it will operate the same as the the layout you have the OS set for. Swap caps if you want to match the letters to the 'right' places
