Would certainly be nice! I know some UK MoD types (or RN/RAF?) got a demo flight in the P-1 out of fairford. It was on the Thursday of the show, IIRC. And later I read an article that MoD people have even been to Japan for preliminary meetings and stuff. Also, another from RIAT. Thanks. TBH, it's hard to **** up at RIAT. Good light until about 1700h, and the action is reasonably close - although I understand safety concerns have pushed things back in recent years and that it used to be MUCH closer in the past. We get closer to the runway at Aero India, but not at the take-off/landing end, so all we ever get are those boring shots where fighters are just getting airborne and retracting their landing gear. Then they turn over and bank away from the crowd, so they shrink pretty quickly into the distance. The display heights are much higher than at RIAT or Flying Legends (although I suppose the latter has different rules, being an all-vintage show). So as for the overall shooting experience, I would happily pick RIAT. Plus, the facilities are much nicer
I saw the XH558 Vulcan flying today, probably for the last time (due to service contracts, not Shoreham). I knew I wouldn't be able to spend much time taking pictures but stuck a 70-200 f/2.8 on the DSLR and slung it over my shoulder anyway, because I wanted to at least take a couple of "record photos" of the event. Already looks like they might... Might have to trade my 100-400 for a 500 sooner than expected! Or maybe have to get on the totterdown hill the next time I'm at RIAT (if I should be so lucky). Yadda, that first one is lovely Here's one from RIAT, of a Griffon-engined Seafire just getting airborne: (click for big)
Cheers, unfortunately that was one of the few times when I wasn't distracted and the light was in my favour. I love that shot of the MiG down the runway, I bet that was a bit loud.
Risked the worst road for a motorbike (crashed 3 times last week on the same road) to get these shots on my cousins farm. Really not sure what's my favorite, only really started this photography when I picked up the d3100.
I was at Wheelgate Park in Nottinghamshire on the Bank Holiday and took my new K3II & 16-85 to give it its first proper outing. It was a miserable day and most photos are family album stuff but in the animal houses I tried to grab a few better shots. A huge Iguana was playing nice so I got up against the glass and fired a few shots off. This one I liked because the angle it was taken at gives the impression the Iguana is smiling. Haha, I get that a lot Actually surprisingly even for the nudie stuff, I'm very rarely distracted. If you've ever been on a photo shoot, they're not sexy (even though the result may be), they're quite clinical (although a lot of fun). You're too busy concentrating on things like lighting, composition and making sure your model is relaxed and comfortable so that the end result is amazing.
Lovely image of the battle of Britain Typhoon, modelled after Flt Lt Nicholson VS's Hurricane IIRC. We had a typhoon [as usual] at the Bournemouth Air Festival, which I managed to see from the water, aboard RFA Argus, but only has my 18-70 fitted. I'd hoped it was going to be this typhoon displaying, but it wasn't. It was superbly LOUD when powering away from us with afterburners lit - it shook your ears Great to see the Vulcan for possibly the last time.
