As if being a PC enthusiast wasn't enough! A little while ago I had a listen through some Beyerdynamic headphones, similar to the DT 990 Pro's but I can't actually remember which model, and it was a weird revelation. What a crisp and clear sound they produced! Since then it's been nagging me because I didn't have a pair of quality headphones and I didn't realise what I was missing out on. Until now... I couldn't help myself and I went and got the Audio Technica ATH-M50X. Everyone raves about them so I thought I'd give them a go. So far I'm not disappointed. However, now I find myself looking at DAC's... Help me! Before it's too late!

Hahaha... Headphones are still one thing. Try great speakers (Studio Reference Monitors, for example... ), and realise that those quickly escalate into the 100s of GBP per speaker region. And room treatment, etc.
I've spent some money on speakers and such but I haven't resorted to room treatment yet, I suppose I have my addiction under somewhat control.
I gave on the PC scene and jumped on vintage audio, I have amps from the 1970s along with speakers and VINYL!!!! loving the vinyl!! Ive now got about 200 LPs. I also have the exact headphones that you have bought in black
Vinyl is a great old school format I also love the warm sound you get, even from an average turntable like I have. 200 Lps, that's a nice collection I only have a few myself.
I'm still rocking an Arcam amp I bought in the 90's paired with a Arcam power amp I picked up some years later, currently bi-amped through a pair of Acoustic Energy floorstanders I bought about 10 years ago, along with some fancy-dan silver speaker cable (prior to this I had Mission 702e speakers and braided copper cables). The amps take a while to warm up (they're best left on) but once up to temp they "sing". I really like them.
Ahh the wonderful world of wallet meltingly beautiful sound. I currently run a rather odd mix; Onkyo 509 coupled with a pair of Celestion A1 speakers for the tv/films Alchemist Kraken APD6A Mkii Integrated with a pair of Roth OLi 1's for the pc / music. I still need to pick up a turntable when I move house and have the space...
Ah, I've been thinking about this for a while too. I've got a pair of Razer Carcharias for my PC and a cheap pair of philips headphones for when I'm using my phone. When I got them like 2 years ago I thought they were amazing. How wrong I was. I went into a specialist music shop in Canterbury and tried out some of their headphones, Holy Horus the clarity. I'm trying to save the pennies to get a decent pair of audio-technica's now, it's like I've tasted the expensive wine and realised the cheap stuff tastes like swill.
I regret selling my Fiio E9 DAC 3 years ago. I looked to get another and they are worth double what I paid for it. However I still have my Sennheiser 568's love them to bits and would not part with them if you asked me to.
Nice to see you're enjoying your system. Often times I see guys changing gear all the time never being happy with what they've got let alone able to enjoy their system. Can always be improved and all that.
My Rotel RC971 Pre-amp & 2x RB971 Power amps from the mid 90s, still going strong. Upgraded my 20yr old Mission 733s to an equally old but in spanking nick pair of 753s Next purchase will be a REL sub!!
For sure, Arcam stuff (Made in Britain ) was built to last. My Alphas (8r integrated amp bi-amped with a 8p power amp) are still regarded to be pretty good I think, at their price-point at least and there are still plenty around, even though they stopped making them in the late 1990's (or thereabouts). I'm happy with them anyway.

Good sound is like night and day, isn't it! I have a QPAD QH-1339 set, which themselves are re-branded Beyerdynamic MMX 300s. Absolutely brilliant. But why stop there? I often watch stuff on my mobile phone, so I treated myself to some Beyerdynamic MMX 101 iE ear buds (snatched them up at half price). Now I can have good audio wherever I am! I do remember visiting a friend a few years back who'd spent rather a serious amount on a speaker set up - it was stereo but each speaker cost ~£2000 and the amp was ~£1000. I actually had tears in my eyes because the sound was fantastic. He put on an orchestral piece and it sounded like we were in the concert hall.
