Probably not because ultimately it's still a Renault.

I wonder if their race strategy will go along the lines of 'Tick - box box box, Tock - protect the tires'

My predictions from the start of the 2015 season:

    • Mercedes will still have the best car on track, but not as dominant.
I'll take that. Whilst they clearly had the best car in the field, Ferrari did give them a little more of a challenge than they got the year before.
    • Williams to continue to impress
They were not too bad, really.
    • McLaren to actually produce a good car and fight for 2nd/3rd in the constructor championship with Williams
Yep, I was on the ball with this one :)
    • RedBull to come out with the fastest car on track, but get banned after it's found they are using some illegal rocket fuel, with active suspension, and a hidden double diffuser. Or more likely they build a car capable of 3rd/4th
      7th and 8th, close enough?
    • VJ will get arrested for some dodgy business dealings and Force India will be sold on.
      Maybe this year instead
    • Hamilton to win his third title
      That was the easy one
    • Alonso to finish second with Kevin falling in somewhere about 5th or 6th never to be seen again
OK, that didn't quite happen :)
    • Button to leave and drive WEC
I'm glad I got that one wrong
    • Ricciardo to finish 3rd, better than one would expect from the car
8th, is that close enough ?
    • Rosberg to come in 4th as the Merc is not as dominant
There was a time when it looked like he may finish 3rd to be honest
    • Bottas and Massa to take 5th and 6th, not sure which
      Spot on :)
    • Vettel will regret the move to Ferrari, only finishes 7th
Kind of glad I got this wrong, was good to see him challenging again
    • Kimi will hate the car, it will be designed around Vettel, and see out his last season in 8th or 9th
OK, he got 4th but didn't realy impress again
    • Hulk will again score higher than Perez
Surprised I got this wrong, cant see a big future now for the Hulk - mid field cars for the remainder of his career

    Predictions for the 2016 season

    • Mercedes to produce the best car, no doubt, but a little less dominant than 2015
    • Hamilton win his 4th title, by a reasonable margin
    • Ferrari will get closer still, and start to offer a real challenge
    • Vettel to come in second, taking points from Nico
    • RedBull will be lucky to get 8th and 9th, and will sell up at the end of the year
    • McLaren will continue to have a rubbish year, better than last, because - well it would be bloody difficult not to
    • Williams will not move forward, but wont fall back either
    • Renault may well struggle with a power unit not up to the level of Merc/Ferrari and having to build a car around a new engine
    • In a first, we will see 2 ex world champions leave before the end of the season (Alonso and Kimi)

Merc to win again but with Ferrari taking more points from them than this year.

Hamilton to win again and Rosberg will choke and show that he's only dominant once the championship has been decided.

Vettel to finish second, far outperforming Kimi, who will drive his last season in F1.

Williams to slip back a little

McLaren to improve enough to fight for low-order points finishes on a regular basis, with perhaps a fluke podium or two.

Force India to beat Redbull and fight it out with Williams

Haas to have a baptism of fire and finish as 2016 back markers

Ron must be spitting feathers, not only have Red Bull taken the sponsor, they're pulling the exact same trick he pulled three decades ago.

I bet Red Bull won't win two championships with their 'Tag' engines however.

FIA have hanged the try regs for next year [source]

So if i've read it right - each team will have 13 set of tyres per car of which:

1 will always be the softest of the 3 compounds for that weekend
2 will always be the Pirelli mandated 'race' compound - of which at least one set must be used in the race.
10 remaining sets of any combo of the 3 compounds for that weekend - one of which must be used in the race and must be a different compound to the above race tyre

... they sure love making **** complicated...

Makes about as much sense as the chewbacca defence.

I don't think so, for example some drivers/drivers prefer to go very long, so could opt for a one-notch harder compound and do less stops. As long as the option is there it could be interesting. I wish they'd be able to change more on the fly though - say you got a bad quali and wanted to go harder/longer, or maybe you went super-duper-soft for grid position and TV time, but came in after 2 laps.

    Also:
No surprise now that Venezuela is now a failed state, that money/incentive will have dried up.

    That could be problematic.

Lotus has reportedly taken money for next year from the both of them and has been using it to stay afloat in recent weeks. Since the team has been bought as a going concern as opposed to folding it will still be beholden to the contracts it signed as Lotus.

I'm sure Renault can afford to buy them both out of their contracts and return the money, but they might consider that too much of a ball ache when they can take the money, keep them and just not renew in twelve months time. Renault have already stated they don't expect to be competitive next year, so it's not loss to them.

Palmer at least deserve a chance, he's been good in GP2.

Well Renault dont need the cash so its a bit of a different situation compared to Lotus who did. If they want to get rid of them both its easily done.

Yea it would be a shame to lose Palmer before we get to see what he can do.

Fully agree, was happy to see him getting a ride, and wanted to see what he could do.

I know it was shared in the 2015 thread but -

Channel 4 to take over the FTA rights from the Beeb

Channel 4 signed on to a 3 year deal to show 10 live races and highlights of the remaining 11 as the BBC seeks to cut costs by ending their coverage deal early.

So it's a 1 year deal and then Sky strong arms all races onto Pay TV only.

I hope C4's coverage is good, otherwise it could be the end of me watching F1, along with the other eight million UK people who've turned off F1 since 2011.
