I recently bought a pack of Lightbox Photography Cards (and chipped in on the Kickstarter for the new Macro version). It's essentially a deck of 52 cards with each one featuring a photo challenge and brief description. This gave me an idea that they could be used for a 52 week project for 2016.

The idea is simply that at the start of each week I will choose a card at random from the deck and take a photo to satisfy the challenge.

To record my exploits I've created a group on Flickr that is also freely available for others to join and take part. The rules are one photo per week (fitting the challenge of course) and no restrictions on camera or medium.

If you fancy joining for the new year the group is https://www.flickr.com/groups/52project2016/

I've gotten really crap at taking the camera out - this sounds like a great idea - sign me up... flickr account necessary? I guess I'll finally be signing up to that too!

Flickr is needed to be able submit to the group.

The cards are very varied and I suspect some might require lateral, rather than literal, thinking.

I think I might try this :). We'll see how many I'll find time to do.

There's a pretty awesome Optimus Prime statue at Universal. The question is do I want to pay to get in just to take a picture of it :).

Is the idea that we take a new picture each week or that we can post a pic we took in the past?

Edit: I presume a new pic btw just want to check as some people in your group are posting old pics

The idea (or what I created the group for) was to take a new photo each week to encourage me to pick up the camera and possibly try something new. That being said there are very few rules with regards to posting and it's not a competition so if people want to post old photos they can. I don't see what they'll be getting out of it but there you go.

Depends. If it's Michael Bay's abomination then no. If it's a G1 Prime on the other hand....

Gah it was cloudy both this weekend and last so all the statues I had in mind didn't pan out with the crap lighting. Of course if I was better I could probably over come that :).

I was planning on visiting a graveyard but rain but a stop to that. We have a statue at work though but with a very uninspiring background. To remedy I thought I'd use Macphun Focus 2 to really throw the background out of focus in post. Turns out Focus 2 is broken so I couldn't! I added an oval blur using On1 but it's not exactly what I had in mind.

After contacting Macphun support about the issue they gave me a key for the newer Focus CK so it's not all bad!

I'd be interested to see the photo before you blurred the background - I really like b&w and ultra wide angle and something about the blur doesn't work for me in this (perhaps the fact that some of the background is in focus and some isn't unlike 'proper' bokeh)
