What's the attraction of drones? Aerial photography, racing, or something else?

I fly a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ for work for getting aerial photos of our sites (I work for a small company that develop constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment) and promotional material as well.

I also use it for 3D mapping of some smaller sites as well. Phenomenal tech to have at my disposal and I'm one of a handful of people in Ireland who are fully licensed.

That being said, I really enjoy flying the smaller toy ones (like a Dromida Ominus) just for the fun of flying. I would love to get a proper racing unit as well though with FPV.

Here's a photo of a site we developed treating raw municipal wastewater (no pre-treatment) in the SE of Ireland:

Cloud 2 is identical to the cloud 1 pretty much. They just throw a USB sound card in. I'm looking at getting the cloud core which is slightly smaller dimensions (may be an issue) and only an extension cable as accessory's.

    for me, Racing and FPV

Not interested in the photography stuff at all but have been watching drone racing for a while. Now I dont have the car I have some spare cash so thought stuff it!

The nighthawk got good reviews and I like the fact you can have different levels of 'help' when flying. Perfect I though for a beginner but allows for expansion if I want to get into it more.

Are you going to get the 'goggle' things that I've seen some operators have? I'm interested but am waiting for an all weather drone, which may be a while off!

I have the B+ currently running raspbmc, but it doesn't like large video files, so hoping the extra power of the new one will deal with that.

It's probably not USB power delivery compliant.

Initially no. As they are $500 I wanted to learn line of sight first and if I enjoy it I will be getting a set. I didnt want to fork out for those initially if I didnt want to do it more.

I suspect I will get them though!

Dell H700 Raid card and cables. uses the same battery as the PERC6 that I already have.

That's the final upgrade for my Older Dell, Its going to be doing very simple file sharing, the HP will be doing the main work. Did the fan resistor mod the other week, and its now quieter than my main PC and still getting great temps.

Yeah, I think he means the new USB power delivery protocol. They're supposed to be rated for up to 100W devices and can be omni-directional. That means that you can actually power/charge devices through the USB. Like the new Macbooks.
