That be awesome, I cancelled my order as it still hadn't shipped added a few more models but then as i was about to order i got a email from forge world saying Win a Titan

All i need to do i now is think of a name for a titan and In 400 words or less, tell us how your Titan earned its glorious or infamous name.

Chances of winnning low but hell its worth a shot!

I saw that, and I'm terrified that if I enter I'll win the Warlord and have to explain that FW really did give it to me, and I've not been hiding 1200 notes under the mattress.

    Also, I finally finished off the headswap on my Reaver;

also that titan looks kickass with that helmet, the only thing bothering me is that the melta barrels are not level

She's likely to be very suspicious if I won something I'd been talking about since it was announced!

Yeah, that's a byproduct of having 8 cables running through the arm joint, because of the angles involved there's not a lot I could have done about it!

Haha, I know that feeling. I'd like a warhound or two and a Warlord to complete my Legio Astorum, but finding someone to play 4-5 titans wouldn't be easy in my group of friends.

Don't worry about that, we'll all come down to WHW when you pick it up and take lots of presentation pictures...

I don't show up in pictures. Like a vampire, but without the downsides of needing a grooming buddy, not tasting things, burning in sunlight, and looking like I've died.

^^ that is simply a by- product of your height, its hard to get a photo of someone whose face is obscured by the clouds

As it stands the only titan i could likely ever field is an ork one ( scratch-building Cheesecake )

also in other news, im currently downloading the BattleFleet Gothic Beta to see if its worth anything

so after a day or so playing i figured id ramble a small review

Its a modern RTS, with no base-building in sight ( BOOOOO ) you select your ships before the match starts up to a points limit, then deploy and fight it out. In this respect it handles very much like the tabletop game (YAY) as opposed to a classic RTS, so folks looking for Space base building should look elsewhere.
The Campaign is laughably short currently at just a small handful of missions. ( currently ) its there to teach you the basics the game-play and nothing more.
also in the Beta only Choas and Imperial Navy are currently represented, with Orks and Eldar being confirmed, Space Marines being a Pre-order bonus ( or DLC thereafter ). No word yet on Necrons, Tyranids, or Tau as of yet though.
Most of the action is in Skirmish mode currently, where you start out with light cruisers being your flagship, but as you rank up battles get bigger and you unlock access to cruisers, battle-cruisers and battleships. ive yet to have a large fleet ( bigger than 5-6 ships ) but i dont yet have access to Battle-cruisers yet either.

as stated this is a BETA and there is a lot more content to come

so overall, if you were a fan of the tabletop is most definitely worth a punt

What are the ship movement/combat mechanics like? I figure they won't be completely faithful to the tabletop game [they'd only really work if the game remained turn-based], but based on my limited playings of the table top version most of the game and planning of turn involved getting your ships into the right position to press that ship's particular advantage.

Essentially, I'm asking if the ships retain their huge turning circles and inability to remain stationary [iirc you could only come to a complete stop for a turn or two on the tabletop].

ships handle more or less like you expect, with varied speeds and turning radii, with the smaller escorts and light cruisers able to dance around the larger, lumbering battleships. you can come to a full stop rather quickly though. The whole getting ships into the correct position to press its advantages is still VERY important, and you can select them to focus with their forward or broadside weapons at your leisure and even tell them the range they should try to engage at ( granted this is moot for the imperium as your ships are sluggish compared to Choas anyway ) you can also give orders to move on a per ship basis, so you can drive a wedge between the enemy fleet, giving your ships targets on both sides to maximise firepower. the imperium also get a fair few torpedo launchers that can do epic damage to stationary, unshielded targets

That said, some of the missions badly need a re-work
Data Recovery, is basically impossible as you have to find and destroy the enemy flagship before he can warp out
Starbase assault is also very difficult if you get it early enough, a starbase with 1200hp that has battlecruiser firepower is not easy to take on

    also

All my items are showing as shipped, need to nip to my local hobby store just to get some glue and maybe some additional paint not 100% on colour schemes yet as i've got a hell of allot of paint so want to try & reuse some of them save some cash. I break up Friday night and i cnt wait to chill out and paint.

I now just need to come up with a titan name & back story for the comp and enter. Thinking i'll stick with my Knights errant theme

Just managed to score another box of Sternguard from on of the FB selling groups. £10 off retail, nice.

I absolutely love that set, so much detail and cool parts in it and now I have 2 sets to build up :)

Slowly managing to work my way through a shed load of Blood Angels and so far, they're coming along pretty well. Still need to get a few more tanks on the go but I can never find the motivation for the bigger stuff. Got 2 Landraiders, a Rhino, a Vindicator, 4 Dreadnoughts, A drop pod, and some more big bits and each time I pick them up to do a bit I just go 'meh' and swap back to more infantry.

Got a couple of REALLY old marines on the way from Ebay as well, looking forward to sorting them out.

The 1st set of models are assembled and primed ready to head to 1st coats, my Knight had a few bits damaged but after a short chat with Forgeworld they are sending the damaged bits via UPS hopefully today,

only downside is due to how i want to paint the model i've really had to plan it out as some bits i need to paint then assemble and thats just really getting me confused to plan it all out lol

Rather nice, I've really got to work on my basing for my miniatures its what currently lets my mini's down,

Managed to start my base coats for the mini's still no good at doing the heads on the minis much rather they had helms on lol, Still waiting for the damaged/missing bits to arrive from Forgeworld, They initially accidentally shipped them to the netherlands >_< and with it being easter weekend its still not turned up >_<

Ta, I find basing to be the easy bit now that I've worked out a method for my Blood Angels. I find that the key to using the materials is variety.

I start with a fairly good layer of PVA with a little flow aid in it to break the surface tension over the base then a small sprinkle of rock bits, then a couple of patches of coarse sand, followed by fine sand to fill in the gaps. This gives a pretty good variation in textures. I'll occasionally add in a couple of resin details or a bit of brass.

Once that has dried I then go over with a good coat of seriously watered down PVA to seal everything down and stop it sucking up the paint later on. Once I have painted, washed and drybrushed everything I may add in some grass tufts on the odd base, these normally get tucked into a crevice at the base of one of the bigger rocks rather than just on some flat ground.

I occasionally leave an area of the base bare, just a small patch or two that I'll cover with one of the cracking pats after putting the initial basecoat on. This gets washed with the rest and then drybrushed to give a similar coloured finish with another slightly different texture.

On bigger bases such as those for flyers I'll use larger rocks and more resin detail bits prior to the sand layers.

Early work, still got to do the details on the troops but the initial paint isnt to bad, Heads i am starting to hate, skin tones don't look good on camera im semi happy with them, But the heads are magnetized so can be altered and i've got a few helmets that i can swap the guys out with for a change.

Photos where taken on my phone, thought id show you the two furthest along figures and the Knight

Fully magnetized and pinned, going to give it another wash as it still looks a tad shiny and allot of the plates are not on will add them once painted.

Yup, looking good so far and I agree, skin tones can be a nightmare, I always feel like I'm trying a new technique each time I paint a head and none of them yet look 'right'. Loving the knight, might have to splash out on one of those at some point, even if it's just for that gun...

Get some sand in and around the caps in the small rocks on the base to make sure you have all the flat areas covered and that'll look great once painted and finished.

In other news, 30th anniversary marine...... wow, want and need.
