The latest to jump on RGB bandwagon, very pretty indeed. Unicorn poop has never been in such high demand!

I love the idea of RGB LEDs on motherboards... not for the rainbow effects as shown but for the possibility of building a PC with any colour scheme you wish and being able to match/contrast the motherboards lights accordingly. I really hated the idea of building a blue themed PC and then having the motherboard glow red...

Hopefully the next mITX boards from MSI and ASUS will also get the RGB treatment, it would go lovely with my shiny new Corsair Strafe RGB. :)

It'd look great 12 years ago in a perpex case plastered with 80mm led fans.

Considering how many modded PCs and peripherals contain lights these days, I don't see you think it's dated.

Isn't X99 ~2 years old? Still they release new boards?

I think Spreadie has a point. I would have thought that the same socket but with a new chipset with updated features was on the cards for the new processors. Much like it is rumoured we'll see 'x'200 series boards for Kaby Lake later this year.

Thing is, what would we be needing? X99 is fine with m.2, U.2, USB 3.1 Gen 2, DDR4, multiple PCIe devices thanks to more lanes, RGB headers etc. What would be the real point in an updated chipset if the CPUs don't specifically bring anything particularly new to the table?

There has been no major reason to upgrade since the i-2500k, barring hardware failure.

True - P67 had both Sata 3 & USB 3.0, and Sandy Bridge has aged incredibly well, thanks to incremental improvements and general gouging from Intel.

M.2 is a nice to have and USB 3.1 is a long way from being a requirement.

Why are we going back to the LED fad again? I thought we left that behind in the early 2000's.
