    Brilliant article.

Obviously "playability" at each graphical quality setting is very subjective, but would it be possible to place a dividing line on the charts as to where that falls? Or maybe just a bit of description to describe where that falls?

    Also, on a side note, where does 1900x1200 fall performance-wise? I assume somewhere between 1080 & 1440?

If AMD / Game devs manage to get the same performance boost as Total War: Warhammer did by going from Dx11 > 12 i.e. in the region of 30-40% (I got around 33% on my 290x) then AMD will have a massive advantage in the GPU stakes because as these results show it's the older AMD cards that are doing well too.

To be honest I was pleasantly surprised to see how so many AMD cards doing well even in Dx11 in the 'bang per buck', come on Nvidia sort it out!

Based on math way too much effort went into you can expect about a 6 - 7% hit vs 1080 ultra results with a 980ti.

as an FYI, at 1920 by 1200, using the game ready drivers on the 'High' preset and using the in-game bench mark I get:
    Average 43 FPS
    Minimum: 36 FPS
    Maximum: 52.1 FPS

Hard to know if the benchmark is truly reflective of general game performance but it's a good start IMO.

Ugh... I know the "hip" thing to do is get offended over petty things, but I think you yourself have already proved the author of the article correct. You had to save up for a 4K display. Most people don't save up for a monitor; they save up for a car, house, wedding, school, or vacation. Most people who buy a 4K display have enough money to also buy a GPU capable of utilizing it. I'm not faulting you for buying that display; that's great you managed to save up for something you really wanted. But just because YOU have one, that doesn't change the fact that 4K users who can play modern games at 4K resolutions (at decent frame rates) are in fact a niche market.

It's weirdly located under the extras menu and not the options menu as I would have expected lol.

In short, it's reflective of the more challenging in-game parts (though I haven't finished it), but that's really what you want from a benchmark :)

Despite running this benchmark over 200 times I am still not used to it being located there!

It isn't. The game runs great on my somewhat-aging rig with everything set to "Very High".

    I'm running an AMD FX-8350 @ 4.3GHz on a R2.0 Sabertooth 990FX, 16GB DDR3, Radeon R9 390X 8GB on Windows 10... it looks great, high frames all round and - most importantly - it's actually a decent game.

A car crash it is not.

    (EDIT: running at 1920x1200)

With every setting maxed MSAA is at 4x

    42 fps min
    50 avr
    72 fps max

    At 1080p on a 1080

    Fun lol.

Without MSAA. Guess 16x AF does not require a lot of performance.

    60min
    60avr
    60max

    Vsync results lol.

Whoops, I read an enjoyed the article (I echo others, more of those for big games please!) but some how missed the bit about it being reflective :S

Ha ha yes, not very intuitive! also, you have marathon patience!

Given that you can change game options from the launcher and in game, why can't the bench mark be triggered from the launcher! :/

judging by other sites, This is the first game where you could say requires a 4gb video card.

2gb is not enough, As saw by the straight differences between 2 and 4gb versions of the same gpu.

I have to say I agree, but I would also say that our own results are enough to demonstrate this. The memory usage is very heavy in this game!

Yup absolutely spot on. Steam survey as of July 2016. Note, 4k isn't even listed so falls under "other" with the rest of the oddball stuff.

1440p users equate to 1.6%, where do you think that leaves you? Probably about 1% of 1%.

The reason? up until about two weeks ago there wasn't a single card on the market that could handle 4k alone with reasonable settings applied throughout. Even now there is it costs £1100.

    I went 4k. Roll on 18 months and I went 1440p instead.

Well this is the reason I need to swap my aging GTX780 then. Good to know.
