Case Mod - In Progress Completed - ' Elemental ' ( a Jonsbo MOD1 build )

Build name : Elemental as it combines the 4 elements

Fire is represented by the heat of the components
Water is represented by the cooling
Air represented by the open chassis
Earth is represented by the 6ft of soil i'll be buried under when the missus finds out how much this is costing !

Not really a 'case', as such, more a semi enclosed frame.

To some this will be an 'ugly case' and will not appeal - Good, we are all different and the more experimental case manufacturers get, the better - in my humble opinion.
The design is 'similar' to the In-Win S frame, a case i could only have dreamt of owning.
Some might cringe at the price of £280 for this case, but in todays market it is priced quite reasonably compared to other 'high end' models.

Will it be whisper quiet with 10 x 120mm fans ? Doubtful
Will the semi-open frame attract dust ? More than likely
Is it an In-Win S Frame ? No, but it is £1000 cheaper

No real plan or direction, i'll basically just build on my desk as i go along, whilst balancing what i would like with what i can afford.

The 3mm aluminium frame is very solid and well built with no flexing.

Logo panel update.

The case comes with a 'Jonsbo' logo which illuminates red.
Great if your name is Jon Sbo, but it needed changing.

The glass logo panel simply unscrews;


Behind it is a light panel which connects via SATA;


I made a new one using 3mm acrylic;



Next was to cover the acrylic in brushed aluminium effect vinyl, but first i had to hand cut the symbols from the vinyl.
The 4 symbols represent the 4 elements Fire,Water,Air and Earth;




The finished article ;

Another small update

To try and keep the red and black colour scheme consistant, i chose the Monsoon MMRS and pump shroud.

A selection of Monsoon goodies;


Assembly is straight forward enough;


Then the pump shroud ;


I've chosen MDPC-X 'Diamond Red' as the sleeving/braid (as it is the closest match);


Despite the plethora of pre-cut mounting slots for pumps and reservoirs in the case, i still needed to widen a couple of slots to fit the reservoir ;


Quite pleased to find this little ball valve on eBay as it matches the colours perfectly;

Update time again

Didn't like the logo on the fans


So set about rectifying that.

Had some stickers printed ;


Perfect fit ;




Next up, the watercooling blocks.

And the retention plate on the cpu block, i wanted black ;

Another update.

As i wasn't going to be using the 'front' grill for fans i wanted to disguise it a little



Bought a suitable rad grill to cover the fan vents



Discarded the bolts that came with it, and chose something more fitting to the build



Combine the red washers with countersunk bolts and you get a more pleasing look.

(the little white mark is a bit of fluff, thankfully not a scratch)

As my current PSU was 7 years old i treated myself to a new one.



As the psu is suspended in the case i didn't trust the little screws that came with it, so bought some sturdier bolts to take the weight.

 

Had a play around with some lighting.







Problem was it washed out the red colour of the fans





So my original strip lights went on a diet and ended up behind the reservoir




Yes, the reservoir need a clean !!

Lighting sorted ( for now ) , and onto the start of the plumbing.

I will be using plenty of 90 degree fittings , as oppose to hardline bending, as i think it looks better in this build. Hardline look great in clean/minimalistic builds but the insides of my build are far from minimal and i think it falls inline with the 'industrial' look of the Monsoon reservoir.



Next stage is transferring my current hardware into this case and finish the plumbing.

I am in the midst of drilling holes on this case. After spending 45 min., the drill bit won't go thru

the case is Magnesium aluminum alloy. The thickness is 2 mm.

I try a drill bit that says masory, another one say HSS straight shank, and 2 other drill bit. It will make a dent at the beginning. But it won't drill thru the hole

what did I miss?

by the way, at the top and bottom of the red plate, there are 2 x 3 set of smaller drilled holes, what are those holes for?

 

Ah, Missed the finale. It came out great. -Still cheaper than a Mac.
@Happy Hopping - Masonry is for concrete. HSS is just a medium-grade steel. You need a bit for metal, and one that is sharp enough to work. I suspect your bits are all dull or the wrong kind.
Extra holes are probably for adding custom parts. The manufacturer went crazy with holes and slots, after all.

 

I am nearly completed the assembly of this case. I'll find a free JPG upload website to post some photos. One thing I am concern on this case is that the on/off button is metal. For anyone who look at any on/off button on any electronics, from TV, to Digital recorder, to stereo equipment, the on/off button is always plastic. Because w/ plastic, it can't transmit electricity, so if your body carries static electricity, it won't fry your circuit.


but w/ metal, it conducts electricity, and can fry the front USB circuitry

 

It's grounded to the case, and the internals are insulated. -Otherwise it wouldn't work as a switch.
