Looks like the water borne vehicle has capsized! :naughty:

And in other news, this is looking to be an impressively engineered build.
    Hand crafted aluminium - check
    Edge lit Acrylic - check
Enormous and intimidating black heat sink - check

And IMHO, better looking than the passive case just mentioned in B-T news

 haha, it took me a while to figure out, what you meant!
I went through my few last posts and thought i misspelled something until i saw it in the pic :D

i ALMOST needed that hint ;)

oh, i didnt even see that new Calyos system yet. Thanks for the link!
With those fans in the buttom, clearly they got that idea from me :D

today i worked on the acrylic in the top and buttom. I sanded all the edges to better fit the aluminum panels. Until now, i only had done that very roughly.
I also did some experiments with the finish of the aluminum panels. I will go for a brushed aluminum look, which i tried on a little piece. I hope to get the rest of the case done tomorrow.

There is a guide on these forums on how to do the brushes straight so it looks nice. HERE

Are you anodising it too? Brushed black anodised cases like the Lian Li's look amazing. Have you got a link to the alfer tubes and connectors please?

yes, i will have it anodised in black, just like my little HTPC ;)

These are the connectors they have. On the left you will also see the profiles.

this is how it looks right now (please ignore all those fingerprints :p )

I have a little toddler running around my house, I'd be happy if the finger prints he left were as minor as those. He particularly enjoys slapping the TV so you get whole palm and finger prints... :wallbash:

    Case looks great.

:hehe: I dont have that problem yet ;)

Im still looking for a PCIE riser cable. I need one, thats going off to the side at the graphics card.
I found this one from Lian Li, which should fit and you can get this in germany.
Also read about one from HDPlex, but thats not available right now. Not sure, if it will ever be again. It looks to be very flexible, but could be a bit short.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I havent updated my log in a while, but finally i can announce that MSI will be supporting my project.  :naughty:
I already got a brand new GTX 1080 and new mainboard will arrive shortly.

Once again, thank you MSI for supporting me!

I tried how it fits. Pretty tight. :cooldude:

This is not the actual board, that i will be using for this build. This is just a leftover S775 board, that i had laying around.

absolutely fantastic...:jawdrop: the amount of calculations, the design, your skills with hand tools, your accuracy, besides, your pics are perfect.:thumb: this is what I always admire with German people, when you do something, it's mostly deeply thought and manufactured without any compromises

Uh,oh! There's no room for the riser. I found out the hard way the risers are fairly stiff and bulky. Also, Li-Heat make the risers lianli sell.

    thank you kim

I dont have a riser yet, but it should fit fine if i use an angled one like the LianLi. ;)

    Really enjoying this log!

Anyone got any other logs with heatpipes used to attach to an external heatsink/radiator (basically watercooling with heatpipes)?

Oh Ending Credits, i totally didnt see your post before. Im sorry!
I dont know about any other logs with heatpipes. But im not sure what you mean with watercooling?

    Ok finally an update! :eeek:

I received another package from MSI with some goodies
At this point another huge thank you to MSI for the support!

Also got the rest of the hardware, that i will be using for this build.

I got the PCIE riser from LianLi, which is a bit long, but the only one i found available in germany with the cable to the side.
I was a bit worried, if the cable would influence the performance of the 1080, so i tested the Superposition Benchmark with and without the riser cable and the results were basically the same (2112 with vs. 2122 points without riser). So no disadvantage due to the riser.

Then i worked on the mounts for the cooler. Measuring the mainboard and the graphics card, drilling, sawing and filing the excess material.

Next step was to tap 8 threads in heatsink, so the mainboard and the graphics card can be mounted to it.

    thanks bawjaws!
yes, ist absolutely massive, but it needs to be. it need to dissipate a lot of heat ;)

    :hehe:

Today, i worked on the mount for the PSU, but its not done yet and i didnt take any pictures
But good news, i will probably be able to mill those channels for the heatpipes into the heatsink within the next couple of days ;)

Update. I worked on the mount for the PSU and got that done.
Milled a few mm off of the buttom of both the CPU- and GPU cooler, so the mounts are below the cooling surface.
Also milled a few mm off of the top of GPU cooler, so that its just a little higher than the graphics card.
Then started on the cutouts for the IO-Panels on the back side.
