Quick question: for an i5-4670K owner who clocks comfortably at 4.4Ghz daily for daily casual gaming, but lately has been showing sporadic crashes................ is the Ryzen 7 a good alternative for a replacement?

Nice review; the 1700X doesn't seem a bad chip/deal, but I wonder how much it'll sell when the full Ryzen line-up is released since a 6c/12t Ryzen 5 or a slightly-harder-to-overclock 1700 will probably be a better deal.

If it's just casual gaming, maybe Ryzen 7 is a little overkill? (Even though it's a great CPU and will handle casual gaming just fine). Could be worth waiting for Ryzen 5 IMO.

Overkill is a word that does not apply in the world of computer parts. There literally is no such thing.

Buy the best you can afford, then stop reading the news :D

i'm happy with my 1700x after almost 3 full weeks of daily use.

    pros:
10 times faster in daily use than the q6600 (@3.06gh) that it replaced.
    8c/16t multi-tasky goodness

    cons:
corsair still hasn't sent me an AM4 bracket for my cooler
AM4 / b350 support for xmp2 still flaky as a crackhead on payday ... paying for 2666 and getting 2133 out of it kinda sucks a lot
    20c temp offset bull****

Meanwhile I'm still waiting for my Gigabyte motherboard ... now they say it won't be in stock until the 12th, which means, due to easter holiday effectively stopping the entire country, I will not have it in hand until the 19th at the earliest.

    *twiddles thumbs*

"there's very little difference between the Ryzen 7 CPUs. They all have four cores and eight threads"

The little box\chart thing says they are all 8 core and 16 thread.

    Page 1, paragraph 3
... do you maybe mean the 1700x is a better performer?

i should have my AM4 bracket in hand tomorrow ... then i shall see if i can push this setup more ...

would be awesome if asus had a bios that would see my 2666 as that, and not chuck me at 2133 every 3rd boot ...
