My beloved MSI 390 8GB Gaming gradually begin exhibiting artifacts and freezing in game and then stopped being able to boot into windows completely. It goes into the BIOS fine and brings up the windows logo then the fans stop spinning and a number of rectangular artifacts appear on screen and that's as far as it gets. I've tried a new PSU and I'm currently running on a backup card in the PCI slot. There's no obvious signs of damage to the card. I'm assuming it's FUBAR'd - unless anyone on here has any ideas.
Sounds like solder failure. You can usually operate a knackered GPU in bios and safe mode but as soon as you load the drivers it tanks. Is it under warranty? it should be? if not you can try baking it.
That's what I thought - some cracks in the solder letting me down somewhere! No warranty as it was bought second hand. Think I might see if I can get something for the heatsink and fan on ebay rather than try baking it.
Is this the one you bought from me Greentrident? If so, PM me the serial number and I'll double check its warranty if you want
It was and I can do but I did remove the heatsink to see if there was any obvious damage to the card which I think will have voided any warranty (I assumed it had none as I've had it a while now).
I would guess it had a little warranty stick on one of the 4 heatsink screws but I'm quite happy to check anyway In any eventuality, do you have a spare card to keep you going?
Yes - running on a Geforce 210!!! Not quite in the same league. Thinking a 1060 3GB might be a good choice for a replacement (especially as AMD cards are like rocking horse droppings right now).
No it isn't, I think it's in a box. And I meant you could have it, since it's the card I sold you that went for a burton
That's really generous and would dig me out of a hole. Don't feel you have to though since you sold me that card a year ago so there's no blame. Like I tell the kids "sometimes computers parts just die" (actually pets in that instance). Let me know if you are feeling generous though as it would give me some breathing room!
Sorry I've been mega busy this lass week the card does work though so let me know if you still want it.
Absolutely! Been looking round at other options but it is the worst time to be trying to source a graphics card. I'll PM you.
Stick your duff card on here instead of in the bin unless it's going back under possible warranty of course.
I watched a dead 290 on ebay go for a stupid amount of money - I don't know if it's because people think it can be salvaged completely or whether the heatsink and fan is of interest!
