    Treated myself today :

    https://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/1...comp-29er-mountain-bike-2017-black-clean.aspx

Last year I got diagnosed with RA, my entire body was locked up, I couldn't move. Put me into a horrible state of mind where I had planned my own suicide, my mind was telling my body and my arms to do things and it was refusing. HOWEVER after 12 months I'm finally on medication that WORKS (Biologic injections every Wednesday) and it's time to get my life sorted.

I put on weights with the medication and steroids and not being able to do exercise, my mate let me take his 29er out last week and it was the first time I had ridden in probably 2 years. Decided I wanted to get my own and get my health and fitness kicked into shape.

    Can't wait!

2-3 hour trip. What a load of ****. Roots, rocks and disc-deep mud. Nothing even remotely hill-like to ride down.

    Still the best hobby.

Don't like the post at all. Not enough blue for it to make sense. So I did my arsehole a favour.

I used to live in London, so a bike was awesome. Chose to stick with BMX as they were harder to break, plus big wheels always felt alien to me. Was sponsored during the late 90s but had a accident so bad in 2000 that I could not even look at a bike without getting nervous and even a new bike couldn't help. I would just start shaking. It's amazing what months of pain can do to your confidence tbh.

I'm over that fear now, but wear a helmet and gloves even for cruising.

This 24 should be easier to ride long distance.

Tiny hills are way better than no hills. And swamp. And roots and rocks. That you can't see because the hay is so high.

    Disc brakes are brilliant.

The whole concept of stopping power seems odd to me as I've never had problems getting the brakes to lock on any surface. Ofcourse locking the wheels isn't ideal for stopping, but surely it's a proof that there's enough power on the brakes?

That said, larger discs and better brakes have a nicer touch. It's lovely to pull manuals with the 180 mm rotors and SLX brakes as it's so easy to brake just the right amount...

Modulation is key, in my view. And brake fade, once you start really punishing them.

That's technique and tyres, if you push the bike forwards and down into the ground with you feet and brake hard at the same time, you'll be amazed how hard you can brake without locking up or firing yourself over the bars.

    Or you need grippier tyres.

With the current tyres being Minion DHF and High Roller 2 I'm not sure what kind of tyres should I get to have more grip...

Anyway it's true that we simply don't have any mountains over here, so fade doesn't really even come to play.

Well in that case you just need to learn the 'smush your bike into the ground and brake' technique.

Swapped the BB for a new one. Sure hope that helps to the mystery noises.

Swapped the seat clamp and got rid of most of the remainin clicking noises. I have no idea how that can help so much, but this is actually the second time it has done the trick - just didn't remember it in time.

Feels so damn good to ride a bike that doesn't make all the wrong sounds.

    Humble Brag time.

My gym had a 'Tour de France' challenge running last month. 177km on the exercise bike broken down into a number of pre-programmed stages, flat bits, climbs etc. Prizes to be won (but I didn't know that).

So I signed up and did it in 4 hours 39 minutes, which equates to 38kph the whole way. Staff at the gym gleefully told me I'd won last week, by 48 minutes. Lot's of people did it in around the 5:30 and 5:45 mark, then at the top of the list there's me, miles ahead. I didn't think I was going that fast when I did it, not sure if I'm proud or embarrassed.

    /humble brag

Don't see it as anything other than good which is exactly what it is

Everytime I go out on my bike I tell myself I'm only going to do so much and always exceed it.

Your challenges are yours and that's all that matters.

...and if you fail them then try harder the next time until u succeed
