My daughters flat mate hasn't used his pc for over a year and a half as it just kept shutting itself down. So I offered to look at it for him and as I thought it was the cpu overheating and the thermal cutout kicking in. So I look at the cooler that has been fitted to the cpu and seeing as its a hexa core FX 6300 I expected at least to see something with heat pipes but nope bog standard POS stock heat sink which I have now found out is for a sempron chip so woefully inadequate, it also had so little TIM on the heat sink that when I removed it there was zero TIM actually on the chip itself leading me to believe it wasn't even making contact. It was reaching 82c doing very little then shutting down. I then quickly realise there is no front intake fan and had already been told there wasn't a fan in the rear when he bought it either, plus both roof fan mounts are empty. This is a prebuilt purchased pc with no fans, an incorrect stock fan and to top it all off he has a 7870 gpu in it which if I recall were always rather warm running. Pretty crappy I thought. Plus is a Corsair 450w psu enough to run this pc happily?
Sounds like your typical run-of-the-mill prebuilt stuff. That corsair 450W psu is just fine for that spec.
Its from a fairly well known online pc builder too, who you would think would know better, especially regarding the cooler.
Not at the moment, im currently testing it with an old H80 that's not fully functional and I wouldn't trust for day in day out usage. Temps only went upto 32c under prime though with a mental 2000rpm fan running on it lol
