Watched episode 1 and 2 last night, I know what you mean about it being more star trek, actually thought I was watching a funny TNG (but I don't want an old star trek anymore so Discovery is good for me).

Really like this show, love the cast and humour, knowing Seth is a massive Trek fan I'm excited for this and hoping he can get some big guest stars!

I've got both Star Trek Discovery and this to start watching over the weekend. Read lots of people online saying that this feels much more like TNG than Discovery (or many of the actual star trek series after TNG) so looking forward to giving it a go. Which to watch first tonight though if I only get chance to watch one?...

Hmmm. One of the best (and imo most accurate) descriptions I've heard of the new star trek films is "fast and furious in space" so maybe I'll start with The Orville :p

Is it all politically correctness gone mad as it was when Partrick Stewart took over as Captain Kirk and where Star Trek pretty much went downhill from that point?

By political correctness do you mean not jumping ass first at enemies?

Oh no, the original series was just plain silly and embarrassing to watch now. No I was referring to having a councillor on the bridge for starters.

Having a councillor on an exploration ship with a bunch of families makes sense when you consider that the concept is "wagon train to the stars" and not errr... "star wars"

And to answer your question, Orville is wagon train; Discovery is star wars.

But would she be on the bridge, given that there are over a 1000 crew on these ships there would be loads of people with 'problems' who needed counselling, so why was she invariably seen on the bridge?

Because Betazoids are highly empathic, giving Picard a slight advantage in diplomacy. However, this thread is about the Orville, not a 30 year old TV show that you never paid attention to.

Seen three episodes - it's pretty weak - prime candidate for mid-season cancellation, IMO.

What's Orville on? Netflix? Prime? A.N.Other service?

Fox UK have the right to it in the UK but they've given no firm air date... so other means i think is the way right now...

'Wait for season 2' is my motto for new series now... got tired of getting into a series only for it to be cancelled after one season...

Up to date on Orville now, and watched the first episode of Discovery. I cringed at Orville initially, but it's starting to grow on me; the first episode of Discovery was awful in every way imaginable.

Hadn’t heard of this, is it a spoof or a serious attempt st a new space series?
