I just run a test and check which is faster. Usually the ISP one is faster but I avoid that one. Then I configure my router as a caching DNS server.

ISP default at home, if I ever have to configure something at work, Google DNS for obvious reasons.

Can I ask why you have a preference? I am ignorant of these things.

I don;t have a preference atm... but some prefer one over another from a speed or 'i don't want to be tracked' pov...

...that and VM's DNS seems to be perpetually broken...

I resolve locally on a caching server - it's a Pi-hole installation on my Microserver, in point of fact - which is set to resolve via OpenDNS, 'cos I like OpenDNS.

the router is a VM Stupidhub so doing anything at router-level is a no-go... I'll probably go with openDNS, was just seeing what people were using...

Quad9 [9.9.9.9] was one i'd not encountered before.
