The "G" chips are the long-awaited Ryzen+Vega APUs. Also,I read elsewhere that X470 will switch from PCIe2.0 to PCIe3.0 for chipset-connected slots (Useful to me as an Intel Optane 900p SSD owner! )
Pinch of salt time, but it looks like the first benchmarks of Ryzen+ may have been spotted in the SiSoft database, headline would be a 200Mhz increase over Ryzen. EDIT: Link to Sisoft result.
Definite pinch of salt methinks, 200MHz increase? Boost or base clock speed?? Lot's of information missing and things to factor into that equation I feel (cooling type used, voltages, is it OC'd etc etc etc).
Both boost and base, like you say though plenty of unknowns, it's probably a ES but even so a 200Mhz increase isn't bad IMO.
200 on the base and boost would take the top chip to 4.2 with default boosts. Things are about to get interesting... and my finger is waiting to hit buy when they become available. Come on, April!!!
So it's 3.8 stock? instead of 3.6? I know I may sound very hopeful, but if that isn't overclocked then it may go a bit faster than 4.2.
Not a great bump from Ryzen+ then, that is only 5%, hopefully more to come, at least the extra 5% that was suggested would be nice, not that I'd upgrade, mine is fast enough.
So, after hands on experience binning forty five mixed R5's and R'7's for a corporate client - I'm speculating that Zen+ will need to be able to hold 3.8GHz-3.9GHz at between 1.26V-1.28V (hopefully lower) to even be capable of hitting 4.3GHz-4.4GHz. As those of us that own them know, Ryzen's Achilles Heel isn't the heat it produces rather the voltage required to sustain the overclock - some chips will also hit a brick wall at a given point regardless of voltage.
That leak is for an "engineering sample". It's possible AMD were somewhat conservative in setting the clock speed.
Not at this stage if it's a branded part. Possibly they could have more XFR boost to differentiate the X parts and add better value to them? Who knows.. It's looking a bit weaksauce if it's only +200 if I'm honest. You can do that just tweaking the same node. I don't hold out much hope for 4.5
I'm itching to upgrade from a 4670K! I was going to go for a 8700K, but seeing that AMD are due to release the Zen+ anytime soon, I quite fancy a change to AMD, and I quite like the idea of 16 threads, as my last chip from them, was an Athlon x2 6400 BE. So am I right in thinking Ryzen 2800x will be launched next month, and X470 in March/April?
Going on what AMD says, and from what I've been reading others seem to agree, they're expecting around a 10% increase in IPC from both the increased clocks and other minor tweaks. If that's the case would that put them within sniffing distance of Intel's IPC (Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake?), I can't remember how much that gap is with Ryzen.
