Done with Last Days. Not sure about the ending but the book was a lot of fun.

Now reading: Red Rising - Pierce Brown

It is... interesting. I very much prefer the original (War of the Worlds) but it was a fun read, albeit a bit too long in some parts.

I read The Massacre of Mankind last summer, and wasn't particularly impressed with it to be perfectly honest. I think it's a reasonably fun concept but not exactly what the world has been waiting for 120 years :) I like Baxter but this definitely isn't his best work.

How did you finish it? I found it awful, I liked the concepts/ideas but the story telling was horrific - didnt care for any characters and the time jumping was tedious.

Ooooh. Is this a new Baxter? Not heard of it before...

@MadGinga : TMoM is a sequel to War of the Worlds, rather than a new Baxter IP. It's not great imho, and certainly not Baxter's best work.

Ah, doh - didnt join up the dots. I had heard of the WotW sequel, but didnt know its name. Not the first sequel to a H. G. Wells classic that hes done, the other I know of is the Time Ships (sequel to the Time Machine if you couldn't guess)

    QFT.

Also finished Red Rising, enjoyed it quite a bit. Pretty happy that I just blindly pre-ordered a signed first/first of book #4 in the series. :)

Having burned through Altered Carbon (re-read) prior to watching the Netflix series (opinion TBC), I've moved on to the sequel, Broken Angels - looking good so far!

    Star Maker - Olaf Stapledon

Every few months I buy myself a handful of Kindle books from S.F.Masterworks e-publisher. By and large they are very good. This one has some strong elements I personally like to read in Sci-Fi however the book itself requires a lot of concentration to read and at least up to around half way in, reads more like the diary of an explorer than to have an actual story. It evokes the imagination certainly but doesn't tell much of a story.

Just picked up Snow Crash and because the movie is coming out soon, Ready Player One. I'll probably get stuck in this weekend.

    Just, don't.

I mean, its an excellent book on the subject, but don't learn about it unless you absolutely have to.

The movie adaptation of RPO will be... almost nothing like the book from what I've seen so far. Which seems to be a worrying trend with book adaptations today (The Dark Tower, Maze Runner, Hunger Games, ...). It can still be a good movie, but I doubt it.

Finished House of small Shadows by Adam Nevill, started Golden Sun (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown.
