...or was that not the kind of name you wanted?

    I'd call it Fred.

Edit: The wife says it is a Pelargonium.

Which is a Geranium but I am not convinced. It could also be a Petunia or a Primula.

Now I'm confused, you just said it could be a primula (aka: primrose).

I'm guessing your good ladies son didn't keep the plant tag or doesn't remember as that would make things easier. :)

Primrose are not the same as Primula and I quote:
They are known for being similar to Primroses, but unlike Primroses the flowers stand proud of the leaves of the plant. ... Polyanthus plants are known to be a natural hybrid between the cowslip (Primula veris) and the common primrose(Primula vulgaris). Polyanthus flowers come in a wide range of colours and shades.

As for your second part of your post the ****head took it out for reasons known only to himself and did not note the type of plant. As far as he was concerned he was doing his yearly duty which was go into a florist and purchase a plant, buy chocolates and perfume elswhere, mothers day covered.

I'm going to guess you took that quote from here, unless my Sunday morning brain is having a day off that's talking about Polyanthus, wikipedia entry on primrose (aka: Primula vulgaris)

There are far to many plants which look like each other that is why we have tags in plant pots except of course we did not and when he was phoned later in the day he had not got a clue what he had bought, no surprise there.
We have to be careful of what plants/flowers we have in the house as we have a cat and some are poisonous to it.
