Seriously? There is no thread about this show on Bit-Tech???

Just finished binge-watching season 1 on Netflix.

    That is all.

No, you think it's awesome, but only because you haven't seen season 2 yet. Now THAT is awesome.

Your timing is good though - you've got enough time to binge through season 2 before season 3 starts, in a couple of weeks.

I really, really like the fairly high attention to detail in space combat in The Expanse, although it does mean that whenever something is missing (like the spalling from a rail gun's slug travelling through a ship's hull) it really irks me.

    However.
The opening premise is fantastic, unfortunately as the story progresses it becomes more and more Space Opera until there are zombies, super soldiers, inter-galactic portal networks and psychic beings beyond our comprehension. It such a shame as the cold war between Earth, Mars, the Asteroid Belters caught in the gap between and someone trying to push for an all out war with a possibly biological weapon is fantastic. Although the way the original premise resolves itself is realistic to the point of being hilarious.

If the TV series keeps following the books (which it has more or less for Season 1&2, it's going to get increasingly silly to the point of becoming boring.

I've tried starting the books and they just didn't grab me. Reading your spoiler kinda makes me sad as I'm really enjoying the earth/mars/belt politics.

IMO it's the best sci-fi since BSG.

I'm holding on the TV show until I've finished the books (nearly finished book 4) as I didn't want it to muddy my view of the characters/world.

Really enjoying the books so far! So I'm keen to see how they adapt it for TV.

So far as im aware we will only see to the end of series three seem to recall it being pulled just after they completed filming in favour of some other gumph.

My only issue is why are all the belters South African/Dutch? Seems to make no sense.

But yes season two really ramps up nicely from season one. Space battles are really good, no fancy pew pew lasers just basically pummel it with lead.

Reminds me I need to get the books.

    An remember,
    You can't take the Razorback

AFAIK, no decision has been made on cancellation yet. You may be thinking of Dark Matter.

I think your right there they chose to axe Dark Matter and keep some other program which had a lower filming budget.

Phew, that comment sparked frantic google searching. All I could see is the suggestion that it needs to get higher ratings to survive since it's not cheap to make. :(

You total git. Do you any idea what you just did to me ?!

Killing off Dark Matter was bad enough, but I nearly lost it and was gearing up for a full on wall of text rant .

You'll be waiting a while to watch the series, then. Book 7 has just come out and there are two more to come, apparently.

If you've read the first one then I think you're good to go with the TV series without it harming your view of the characters or world, to be honest. Enjoy!

I thought it was some form of creole... Either way it can be damn hard to follow sometimes.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a creole that's an amalgam of a whole load of different languages (because the Belters themselve are a mix of peoples from all over Earth and beyond). As for it being hard to follow, that's kind of the point - the Belters are not like those pinché Inners, sa-sa? :D
