Like I said, they appear to be expanding just enough to keep slightly ahead of demand, not provide enough supply to actually lower prices.

They can’t miricle production out of thin air. Look at nvidia and AMD gpu situation if they could make more they would.

I don't want excuses. I want cheaper RAM.

Well, maybe I don't, if it was I'd probably upgrade although I don't need to.

Looks like a class action case has been brought against the big three for price fixing.

So, if they lose they get fined $300m, but they probably made five times that over the last couple of years.

The scale of their business means that hundreds of millions of dollars in fines is worth taking on the chin - they still stand to make more out of price fixing than they lose. The vast majority folk, including most PC enthusiasts, are largely unaware of the manufacturer of the RAM chips inside their PCs so it's not like they'll be facing a consumer revolt or boycott anytime soon.

On the off chance the public do realise, who're they going to turn to?

FWIW, as david points out if they *are* found to have colluded and fixed prices? Then what? Not like apple etc can feasibly go anywhere else for their supply, even if they could the price fixing likely means the other suppliers are at it too...

So for the suppliers the risk of getting caught fixing prices and the penalties for doing so is more than worth it.

...*if* they are indeed fixing prices.

Thread tidied. @David, @Corky42, let's either play nice or take our bats and balls home, hmm?

Let's keep it about Rampart, people.

I'll say it again as it got lost in the OT parts, if they are found to have been fixing prices then wouldn't that lead to them not fixing prices and RAM getting cheaper.

I know there's been lots of talk about them being investigated but i can't recall any action being taken, this seems to be the first action being taken against them, all be it only a class action court case.

It is true enough though, if any fines are slapped on them they'll still be laughing profits wise.

And it will pass into the history books as it's not like anybody can just go shop elsewhere.

Prices down by 0.05 to create the appearance of having learned their lesson from the fine and five seconds later prices up by 0.20 to pass the cost of the fine on to the consumer.:p
