...I have a sneaking suspicion i may have asked this already but i'm having a brain fart and can't find the original topic if i did. I know first-gen Ryzen was a bit tempermental with memory and whilst i'm fairly sure the concensus was 2nd gen wasn't as tempermental I still have to ask - Memory - stick to something from the mobo's QVL or just buy the fastest that budget allows and hope the board doesn't throw a hissy fit?
What board are you intending on getting? That also plays a part. I did find that even a cheap B350 from ASUS handles 3200 without issue, though.
QVL's make getting the RAM running at the advertised speed easier, not being on a QVL doesn't mean you can't get RAM to run at its highest speed in a particular system just that it can be a bit of a faff as you may have to spend ages adjusting timings, testing, adjusting, testing. RAM not being on a QVL pretty much means the auto settings for RAM timings in the BIOS makes a best guess at what a particular auto setting should be, instability comes from when it makes a wrong guess.
It's not my build(s) in as much i've been asked to build it/them for someone else... but... Crosshair VII Hero [or the Strix X470-I] paired with this ram, or, failing that, the fastest 2x16 listed on both boards' QVL list
High memory density will probably cause you a headache. 3600 should work fine, but I know 4000 will be one hell of a struggle.
Pretend i've not had enough coffee and don't know what that means... ...fwiw, requirements = 32GB, preferably 2x16GB... as fast and as 'set and forget'-able as possible...
B die works better with ryzen. Samsung B die normally 3200 at CAS 14, other RAM will normaly be CAS 16 at 3200. (from what I've been able to glean).
These are the mem kits I'd recommend based apon your criteria - G.Skill Trident Z 3200 MHz CL14 F4-3200C14D-32GTZ G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200 MHz CL14 F4-3200C14D-32GVK Both are 32Gb (2x16Gb) Samsung B-Die
Sammy single ranked B die, low cas, 16GB kit, in stock et voilà ! They sell a 32BG quad kit for £390 too. If you can live with the 8 pack branding.
I can live with the 8pack branding... needs to be 32GB though... so that would rule out ITX... So, by the looks of it - if it's CL14 it's Samsung B-Die... if it's not... then it's not...
It is, if you have a spare £525 kicking around...?? To be fair, the 32Gb twin sets have never ever been the cheapest. EDIT - The other option as @David has suggested is two 16Gb (2x8Gb) CL14 Samsung B die kits plus an mATX board for the smaller footprint.
