I recently became interested in this after realising that activity on the forums ramps up from 9AM until lunch time, Drops off from 12-2 then is back to normal until around 7 then drops off again. So what do you all do for a living that let's you be on bit-tech all day? :winking:

Sit at my desk doing the bare minimum until my notice period ends in 2 weeks. Occasionally answer a phone and scroll Bloomberg.

I've got very good at taking 25 minutes for a coffee run.

IT Project and Service Management across 5 countries in Southern Africa for a major financial services provider.

Means that I work extreme amounts in "bursts", and spend time between messing about on this internet thing while trying to procrastinate studying for my LLB

In my teens I worked with a glazier. I loved it, always somewhere different and never there too long. In my 20s I drifted between jobs, but most notably I worked for Rogers (audio company) for a couple of years before it closed down. Loved that job. I then worked at a bike shop building bikes. Then I went to work for a PC shop selling gaming PCs, building office PCs, servicing and repairing school computers and etc. Did that for about three years. Had some crap jobs in the USA (call centre, Blockbuster Video, Burger King etc) before "retiring" when I was in my late 30s. I haven't actually retired I just became too ill to work. TBH every job I had was stress and problems in some shape or form, unless I was left completely alone to my own devices. Then I was good at what I did. But introduce any stress and I immediately saw red mist. I was unemployed a lot. It all made sense when I was diagnosed with Bipolar. You know? six months on, six months off. Between jobs I used to build/fit car stereo systems (big ones) and repair computers and etc.

Now I just seem to swallow pills for a living.

Tech support at an MSP with very little interest in fixing the break-fix stuff properly, so everything breaks a lot. However, mostly sitting watching progress bars means I do spend inordinate amounts of time on BT/Reddit/Imgur.

In the evenings I'm either gaming or watching stuff with the lady, same goes for the weekends. I pop on if I'm expecting (Or half expecting) a response to something, but that's largely it.

I build specialised 2D barcode scanners for the life science, pharmaceutical and bio-banking markets. Small-scale electromechanics, basically.

Always worked with my hands - From putting up walls and ceilings on site, to fabricating high-end radio antenna from raw box and tube section of aluminum.

Senior Second line analyst, basically third line, project deployment/support, app testing, trainer and major incident manager. Without the pay to match even one of those roles or access, but all the responsibility.

Though if your bored you'll note my IP is different from my normal daily one as I've been signed off due to stress/workload.

    Very cool.
Don't be silly, You're here all day.
I'm guessing you started low and they slowly added more responsibilities without adding to the pay?

    Pre-sales, evangelism, marketing/enablement for a tech vendor.

If I'm not travelling, I'm working from home with a fair degree of flexibility with regards to when/how I work, so long as I get stuff done - working across US, EMEA and APAC means the concept of a "working day" is largely irrelevant. So the interwebs can get browsed as required.

Pretty much yeah, started on first line then someone realised I was good at reporting and it all went downhill from there.
