    I acquired a 2nd hand one of these ....

    http://www.zyxelguard.com/NWA1121-NI.asp

... to boost my wifi throughout the house.

Plugged into a PoE switch, works fine and has a decent signal, however, I cannot log into its config page to secure it or link it it my curren Sky SSID.

The destructions say I need to log into http://192.168.1.2/ but the connection times out. I can't see it connected to my sky hub but i is connected to the internet and the Zyxel SSID is being broadcast but unsecured.

I have tried this link ..

    https://www.manualslib.com/manual/363172/Zyxel-Communications-Nwa-1121-Ni.html?page=128

Any ideas as to what I can do ?

How do you know that IP address is correct on your LAN, is it the same addressing scheme as your LAN?

What is the address range on your LAN router? Is the AP getting its wired IP address via DHCP? Did you hard reset the AP before plugging it in?

It's a standard Sky Hub. I have no idea if its the correct IP thats the problem. It is supposedly plug and play but its own defaults. Not sure what you mean same addressing scheme, you mean IPv4 ?. I assume it would get it via DHCP but its not showing on the admin screens of my sky hub.

Looks like the end range in the sky hub is 192.168.0.254 so that would explain not seeing the ip address I guess. How would I go about setting an ip for a device I can't see ?

I have hard reset the AP.

    Thanks for the help :)

changed the range of sky hub to end 192.168.1.254. Rebooted hub, still nothing.

no thats the whole problem. I can use it the internet through zyxel SSID it but its unsecured, so anyone can. I can't get to the zyxel log in page to do the needful. Once I am in there I can sort it.

Just keep getting connection timeouts. I have ven added a reserved the address default ip address and MAC for zyxel but nothing... connection timeout at 192.168.1.2. Seems sky hub will only go to 192.168.0.254 even though I have changed end to 192.168.1.254. All seems to be down to this piece of crap sky router.

Look in the DHCP entries on the Sky hub in case the access point got a DHCP lease.

Quick question: is the PC you are using to connect to the AP on the same wired network as the AP ETH port?

As Zoon said, check the DHCP entries in the Sky Hub. If you can't find anything there, use Angry IP to scan the range to see what devices it finds.

Thanks for everyone's responses by the way. Much appreciated.

Could the AP be running on a static IP?

Yeah sounds like it’s got a static IP in a different IP range.

Connect it to a PC or laptop directly and run wireshark on the lan connection. Then turn on the AP and sniff til you see something useful.

You’ll probably need to put your IP address as 192.168.0.1 with a 255.255.0.0 mask so you’ll see traffic on the whole network, since Windows will auto configure to 169.254 if you leave DHCP on and I think it’ll reject if you try to put on a blank static IP.

I tried linking it to my laptop with nothing else other then the poe switch but it won't talk to the ip it has after a reset 192.168.1.2, not through the sky hob or anything. Not sure I understand the rest of you post regarding putting my ip in. I think I am going to have to give this up as a bad lot

First install Wireshark with WinPCAP. Reboot even if it doesn’t tell you to.

Second download the NetScanTools Pro Demo specifically because it has an ARP Ping https://www.netscantools.com/nstpro_arpping.html

    Next, static IP. https://kb.netgear.com/27476/How-to-set-a-static-IP-address-in-Windows

Set to 192.168.0.1 mask 255.255.0.0, no gateway, no dns or set dns to 8.8.8.8 if it makes you.

Then start Wireshark capturing on your Local Area Connection.

Then power on your access point. First look at Wireshark to see if there’s any traffic from any IP other than 192.168.0.1. If nothing useful then use arp ping to “Send Broadcast ARP Only” which will hopefully give you more than one Unicast reply and give you a second IP address e.g. the IP on your access point.

Post screenshots and I’ll try to make sense with you.

BTW if even arp ping doesn’t find it, it’s probably dead. But if you wanted to post it to me I’ll try some of my secret network guru stuff on it and try to rescue it.

I just replaced my 2 1121s with some sexy new Ubiquiti APs, I'll factory reset them when I get home and see what IP range they default to.

Cheers. I still haven't had a chance to try everything from above. That IP I posted is what it says it defaults to.
