Have an old H80 on a I7 2600 in an elite 110 case. The CPU hit 98c at one point, is the H80 not powerful enough? I swapped the front fan over to one that came with the H80 and it's crazy fast and loud. Should I go back to the noctua that I had on the 2500k as that was fine. CPU is at stock as well.
Yeh I think the pump is stuffed. My daughter is playing Sims 4 on it right now so will send how that goes. Think I might see if there is some way I can fit a H50 or an antec 620 using the H80 mounting stuff as I'm missing the mounts for the other 2.
Yeah definitely not properly mounted or borked. I just have a 92mm Hyper 103 aircooler and my i7 3770 never goes above mid 60s.
That is the last soldered chip before Intel turned to using this ridiculous putty from die to IHS nonsense. There is no way you should be seeing those temps even with a stock cooler, I would say it is the pump if your fans are spinning.
Well it turns out I have to swallow my pride and admit it wasn't mounted properly. I took the block off and found this So something was obviously afoot. So I remove the board and instantly I could see my silly mistake, I thought the rear mounting plate was symmetrical but it isn't it has cutouts to clear the screws from the cpu socket. I had it on the wrong way round All refitted but not tested as I have to go out, hopefully I will see a dramatic drop in temps later
Ok sits now idling at 31c where as b4 the lowest I saw was 48c but more often mid 50's. Running prime 95 sees it hit 80c within a minute or so, mind you this is in a case with just a single low speed 120mm nexus fan. This pc just gets used for low intensity games, the likes of Sims 4 etc so I'd imagine it's going to be fine.
Nope think it's buggered. Sims 4 for a couple of hours and core temp max temp reads 87c, noctua going back on tomoz. Either the pump is screwy or for what ever reason it just can't make full contact with the cpu
Well turns out it still wasn't mounted properly and the block still wasn't making contact with the heatspreader. I found out that the H80 backplate captive nuts are same thread as the mounting screws on an antec khuler 620 which I had knocking around (no backplates as that's how it came to me). So I have used that backplate and it's all fitted perfectly. The 620 is now fitted and with all 8 cores loaded with prime 95 it tops out at 57c on the hottest core (about a 2 degrees c spread across cores). so all's worked out well in the end, plus the mini rig is almost silent at idle, can just hear a slight thrum from the pump.
Just found these too, think I might order one and see if I it will work with the H50 I have here that's missing a backplate also. I don't see why it wouldn't. LGA 115* backplate
