I'm looking for a longer (1m+) TB3 cable, so I can space out things a little better on my desk, but I still need full bandwidth for my eGPU. Amazon seems like a bloody minefield, with everyone jumping on the "our cable is best, just look how freakin' expensive it is!" bandwagon, so I'm looking for recommendations based on experience or reviews you trust. I'm not looking for optical TB cables because they don't support power delivery, and I don't mind paying for quality but I ain't queuing up to get fleeced i.e. Belkin can shove their £75 cables where the sun doesn't shine. Anyone got anything?
Anker and Belkin are both good brands. Does the branding is a bit confusing, do you need the USB C ends or the thunderbolt end? what about this
Whilst Belkin can **** right off, 2m TB3 cables seems to be quite pricey... This is the only one i could fine that is a: actually a TB3 cable not USB, b: a known-ish quantity/probably not chinesium, c: not stupid money... Ordinarily i'd say Anker but the only TB3 cable i could find was only 0.5m.
That's only rated at 5 Gbps, so it's basically a USB C cable - pity though, I've had a couple of Ugreen products and they've been decent. Yeah, they do. £50 is a lot of money for what you get. I'm not being tight, I'm just not programmed to accept that kind of price for a cable. It's half bandwidth though - I need 40 Gbps for the GPU box. I appreciate the effort though, fellas.
That's the other thing none of the longer cables appear to be 40Gbps... it's pretty much: long cable or high bandwidth, pick one.
Anyone know if Lindy cables are any good? Found some on the bay claiming full bandwidth at 2 metres for £40.
Lindy make fairly decent stuff as far as I know. They do seem to be expensive things, can't see anything much under £50. At that sort of price I guess it's a case of making sure anything you do buy is clearly stated as being to your required specifications. Then if it's from Amazon or Ebay it should be fairly easy to return if it doesn't work.
It is a pity the UK doesn't have anything like monoprice. It seems like they aren't possible. It seems they can't run 40gb/s longer than 0.5m. Otherwise amazon basics should be fine.
The issue with the longer cables is signal integrity. That's why USB 3.1 Type-C has very specific lengths at which it can operate at full speed.
Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to find a 1 to 2m 40Gbps that doesn't require a mortgage. Seems to be a big ask.
