A generous framing, albeit not incorrect reporting, of the price of this card given that it sells for as much as the 1080 launched at!

Oh, aye, it's still a hell of a wodge of cash. Basically the same price as my entire desktop, when you account for VAT.

In some ways this has the worst value proposition - you get all the early adopter tax for ray tracing hardware, but on the lowest end ray tracing card there's a suspicion it'll quickly become too slow to be of any use.

The GTX 1080 launched at $599 MSRP and $699 FE.

I bet Nvidia can't wait for all the old Pascal stock to finally sell out so that the only option left to people will be to buy these overpriced Turing lemons.

This is the kind of pricing you get when there's no real competition.

Or you need to artificially create some value for the old product due to excess inventory.

To be fair, unless your desperate for a new GPU (which most of us aren’t), who gives a toss??

It’s not like Nvidia can’t swallow a few dips in their flow chart of income, no one with any sense is going to buy into unproven tech with promises which are yet to show proven results.

But they will, and they have, but you shouldn't.

Yeah, if you absolutely need every last bit of GPU grunt then you'll be lining up for a 2080Ti regardless, and everyone else can vote with their wallets. It'd be grand if these new products offered a huge increase in performance for no extra cash, but if they don't then the answer is to choose not to buy them.

Yep, they'll hopefully be some good deals on 1080ti, 1080 & 1070 cards coming soon, as retailers clear their stock of these cards.

Now the 2070's don't come with a SLI NVlink connector does that mean they're now classed as mid-range cards?

Outside of a tiny selection of games with great SLI scaling (like for example Sniper Elite 4 and even there it is doubtful as the 2070 is severely cut down compared to the 2080TI) 1x 2080TI FE will eat 2x 2070 FE for breakfast for the same price.

I don't recall any sort of clearance prices on previous generation cards for a very long time. Could well be mistaken on this, but I don't remember 9-series cards going cheap, or 6- or 7-series.

No, they will milk the cow for all it's worth I suspect so wouldn't hold your breath expecting massive price cuts and deals.

Tbf I don't recall AMD, Nvidia or Intel doing clearance prices for old gen stuff, so it's not like Nvidia are alone in milking that cow.

True, though I can't see the RTX's shifting in great volumes in the here and now so they will want to maintain a premium with the 10 series to compensate - plus with the Orange Man's China crusade set to further increase RTX pricing...
