So, apparently, Intel think their new CPUs will be ... wait for it ... 97% faster than their sixth-gen chips in certain cases. Here’s the direct quote: “On average, Intel claims the chips will be about 10 percent faster than last year’s 8th-gen desktop CPUs and about 40 percent faster than a 3-year-old PC with a 6th-gen CPU. The exception is for video editing in Adobe Premiere, where Intel claims the 9th-Gen will be 34 percent faster than an 8th-Gen CPU and 97 percent faster than a 6th-Gen CPU. This, Intel claims, is primarily due to how Adobe Premiere utilizes the higher clock speeds of the CPUs.” You have got to be ?!@$ing kidding me. Seriously?! Ninety-seven perfect faster than a Skylake chip?? Bruuuuuuh. Furthermore, they’re 40% faster than a Skylake chip on average. Huh? Which is it, 40 or 97? Either way, we all know that none of those claims are true. It will only be significantly faster in multithreaded workloads thanks to the extra cores and threads. Poor marketing is poor. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. How’s that 14nm++ working for you, Intel? Apparently...not so well.
Gamers Nexus explained a while back what is going on with Adobe Premiere: Tl:dr Adobe started making better use of Intel IGPUs, also a big fat disclaimer for those who skip half the video: applicable only to Adobe Premiere due to changes made to Adobe Premiere itself, result not representative of software in general.
Tbh I always read that kind of claim, whoever is making it, with great scepticism. It's 90% faster!* *in one app, maybe, if you squint at it on the 3rd Thursday of a month when Mars and Saturn align.. It's the first mainstream 8c16t CPU* *...if you would kindly forget that Ryzen exists, that'd be great. 40% faster than Pascal!* *that wasn't us, that was nVidia... We gave gamers what they asked for!* *well they asked for more sensible prices but this is just as good, right?
I believe them. If the 'certain case' is me running 100m with a 6th gen strapped to my ankle with Usain Bolt carrying a 9th gen in the next lane. Sure 97% very doable.
TBH the "First mainstream 8c16t CPU" marketing line was more hilarious. I think we all imagined Ryzen... didn't we?!?!?!
I mean the other stuff you can put down to an over imaginative Marketing Department but that 8c16t nonsense annoyed the bejangles out of me. #Trumptel logic
Am I the only one that is about as enthused about this Intel bs as I was with Nvidia’s RTX launch? It’s already been noted their so called comparison testing vs Ryzen has been creatively doctored and tbf with the current pricing...?? Do they seem to think the average enthusiast is as thick as pig sh*t or is it they’re so enveloped in their own little fairy tale utopia?
From pie to toad in the hole...Anyway... An i9 9900k and a 2080Ti, best remortgage. Oh then there's the mobos (how the frak much?) and DDR4....
Nope. I'm so excited I am dumping all of my cash into water cooling and modding my PC, rather than updating the hardware.
